Please explain why you Republicans support the wealthy over your own middle class?

Yes, they work for those with power, for those at the top. The rest of humanity is screwed.

Your free market at work.

Well, there you go. A fire in 1911 proves that we need to end capitalism and adopt Soviet style Marxism.

What a convincing argument....
Didn't you know that Big Government can avert all disaster just by sheer will?

/sarcasm.

You know............if the GOP is so pissed about the economic recession, I've just one question............

Why do they support a person who has worked for Fannie and Freddie as a consultant (and they were a large cause of the economic meltdown) for president (Newt)?

Actually they can and they did.

Even the Chamber of Commerce supported the stimulus plan.

I don't mind that the rich have more money.........

I just want them to pay their fair share of taxes instead of the 17 percent only they pay on capital gains (which is how most of the wealthy make their money).

Us working stiffs with real jobs? We're in for 28 percent.
Get this....capital gains tax should be reduced. More capital would be invested, more jobs created, more income taxes paid, more families able to buy for themselves rather than have the nanny government dole out money for nothing.

I am glad to hear you have a job. Thank a richer man for it.

Take away the incentive to invest, I will not invest.

Long live free enterprise!

Communism SUCKS!

People need to study how the Republican Party emerged from the New Deal Wilderness starting in the late 60s.

The GOP realized that simply supporting the tax agenda of the wealthiest Americans would not work. They also realized that the bulk of middle class Americans were under the spell of the Democratic party, who had given them jobs during the depression, along with subsidizing their houses, education, health care, and retirement (through Social Security and, later, Medicare). Please recall that during the postwar years the government put our returning veterans to work building the infrastructure of modern America. Great Republican presidents like Eisenhower put America back to work building the nation's interstate, which was a boon to business, who realized major efficiency gains through lower shipment costs.

So what did the GOP do to win back the heartland from Democratic control.

From economic populism to the culture war. Starting with Nixon, the Right began to wage a war against the social excesses of sixties liberalism. They targeted the White Silent Majority with the following message: your country has been lost to hippies, bra burners, baby killers, atheists, and anti-patriotic blame-America-first Liberals. In the south, this message took on racial overtones, in an attempt to foment backlash over Federal intrusiveness RE the Civil Rights Movement.

Because the liberals had - during the postwar years - created such a solid economy for the middle class, the Right didn't have to focus at first on the economy. Please recall that Eisenhower and Nixon didn't wage a war against the New Deal, the tax structure, or the government allocation of investment capital. Indeed, after a couple decades of the New Deal and progressive tax policies (which created a compression of incomes thus putting virtually everyone in the middle class), Americans had become a classless society in the 50s & 60s - they trusted the New Deal economy.

Which is to say the real weakness of 60s Liberalism was not the government controlled economy - which was largely supported until the stagflation of the 70s - but "values". MEANING: when the Left shifted from economic support for American workers to social support for marginalized groups, the Right saw an opportunity. This is when they started to form an official coalition with evangelicals, who were deeply opposed to the immoral excesses of the sixties revolution.

In short, Movement Conservatism used the values failure of sixties Liberalism to "brand" white Christians. Indeed, "Reagan Democrats" were comprised of catholic union workers from the northern industrial states who felt alienated by the radical student movements and the New Left - many of whom shifted allegiance from FDR and Keynes to Marcuse and Marx. Indeed, many of these pro union families were deeply patriotic (like FDR), thus they opposed the Left's new anti-American-military position. The Right saw this wedge in the Democratic party and created a culture war which pulled middle class America into a political movement which now supports the interests of concentrated wealth. But, the Rightwing voter does not see it that way. They believe they are on the side of Real Americans and Family Values. This is exactly how backlash Conservatism was designed to work. End of story.

PS: Big business poured money into Reagan because he had the charisma to attract and grow Nixon's Silent White Majority, many of whom supported the New Deal but opposed the sixties radicals. Business understood that in order to control Washington, they needed a populist movement capable of winning elections. In order to give tax breaks to the wealthy, and in order to give deregulation to too-big-to-fail banks, business needed to fund a Conservative populism based on family values. In order for oil companies to control American energy policy, they needed to pull voters into their cause through the culture war. Once you understand this, you will understand how the Republicans emerged from the New Deal wilderness, and you will understand why the white silent majority votes for the concentrated political power of concentrated wealth.

Conservative "backlash populism" was funded by big business to capture ordinary voters. The point of talk radio is to make middle aged white men grip their steering wheel in rage over the liberals who have destroyed the Real America. The culture war is the point, and culture wars always stipulate that the country has been stolen by an evil force. This is the oldest political trick in the book.

Yes it is an old trick, one that OWS is using to build "economic warfare" (class warfare). While igoring the 1% that support the democrat politicians and their supporters, the OWS legion is targeting those that Washington has set up to take the fall. What do you think will happen if the OWS get what they are demanding in the streets? Hellow Greece and Italy disasters. Does Zimbabwe mean anything to you (the gov't there printed money to pay the bills, also).

Many of us recognize that republicans are taking this country into the gutter, unfortunately, the democrats are trying to get there at supersonic speed. It is an ugly choice, and most of us are choosing the lesser of two evils. Conservative values could save the country. I don't know if we have enough individuals left to vote for the survival of the country over the bribes they are getting from the gov't.

The country is not run by some abstract boogeyman called government. It is run by the Big Money which funds both parties.

The current crop of politicians methodically take private sector bribes from the lobbying industry. Wall Street owns the Democrats and Republicans. Do you know how much money Wall Street has poured into Washington? Are you suggesting that our government leaders are so noble that they are not rigging the economy on behalf of their paymasters?

Conservatives are being convinced by business (which funds Talk Radio) that the problem is government qua government. Guess what? Government is Wall Street. Your government is owned by the market winners in each sector. Who do you think funds elections? Who do you think removes politicians from office if they don't play ball with business?

Reagan, Clinton, Bush, and Obama work for big business. Congress works for big business.

The rightwing still thinks we live in Ayn Rand's Russia, when Stalin stole her family pharmacy. They don't get it. The pharmaceutical now owns government.

(please turn off talk radio)

The rightwing pundit class spends more time talking about government power rather than the power of big money over government? There is no such thing as government power in the abstract. Government does what business pays it to do. Period.

If you want to protest Obama or Bush, don't go the White House. Go to Goldman Sachs - go to the businesses that pour billions into elections.

If you want to protest Greenspan, Bernanke, Paulson, Geithner, don't go to Washington - go to the place where all those men came from: Wall Street.

If you want to protest Congress, don't go to Capital Hill. Go to K Street or big pharma. Do you know how many congressmen have become health care and drug lobbyists? Where do you think Freddie Mac went when they needed to win favor with the Republican controlled house? Answer: Newt Gingrich.

Son, there is no "government".

Government is a bogus holding of Wall Street. It is designed to subsidize investments and absorb losses. Government is little more than a line of credit or ATM for big business.

Government is a safety net for big business. It is a bailout machine.

As for OWS, they're morons. They don't understand that hedge fund managers made billions creating securities which were designed to blow up over the economy. Wall Street knowingly sold stuff they knew to be junk. OWS doesn't understand that Wall Street burned generational wealth in a derivatives ponzi scheme which placed bets they could not cover against bogus securities they were peddling around the globe. It was the crime of the century, and it was made possible because Wall Street owns both parties. Worse: Republican voters know none of this. They've been told that the meltdown happened because Washington tried to put more and more poor people into homes. Problem is: nobody forced Wall Street to place over 30 trillions of dollars of bets on those homes. Nobody held a gun to AIG's head and said: "I want you to places bets you cannot cover on products you have not sufficiently evaluated". Republicans have not been told any of this. They are trapped in a hermetically sealed information bubble.

Both parties are totally owned by big business. There is no government. Obama should answer the phone "Hello, this is Government Sachs, how can I help you?"

So corporations don't invest a massive amount of money every year into specific political interests?

Are you having trouble reading the words I quoted?

No, I'm just confused as to why you threw out the hypothesis so quickly.

The Tea Party has problems with money in politics too, it's not just the left that is angry about that.

Though both have their specific targets as to the origination, the left says it is the companies, and the right says it is the government.

I think both are right.

How can that be changed? Don't the "people" elect officials? Why do the "people" keep voting in the corrupt? Is it because almost half the country is bribed with handouts: employment, welfare, unemployment insurance, foodstamps, student loans, etc. If the "people" would open their eyes and vote against the "corrupt", it would be a lot harder for corporations to "own" them. With the internet, there is no excuse for not knowing about how corrupt a politician is (with the possible exception of first office held). The gov't and business is the medifore of a "tiger by the tail". The voters are the only ones with the power to end it.

- The Tea Party support the Wealthy

- The 99%ers Occupying Wall Street support the Middle Class

Choose your side and lets get on with it!

Assuming you're serious.... what a fucking ridiculous thing to say.

You know, I drive by our local contingent of the Flea Party nearly every day while I'm working. Slowed down to a crawl by the traffic having to carefully wend its way through idiots casually jaywalking back and forth across the main street in the downtown area, I have plenty of time to observe them in their little shantytown, lounging and chatting outside their squalid tents under a big sign that says, "We the 99%". And I invariably think, "Bullshit you are. Ninety-nine percent of Americans can't dawdle around in a park every day for two months. The REAL ninety-nine percent have lives." I'm working my ass off 9+ hours a day, five days a week - made much harder by having these turds in my way every time I need to go downtown - to make ends meet, and I resent the hell out of these lazy, arrogant little bastards assuming representation of me without being asked.

I believe in treating EVERY American with the same level of respect and not catagorizing them into classes.

Therefore when you "target" one group of people for the benifit of another I defend them.

Really? even those evil "libruls"? Yawn.

Has someone suggested levying a tax just against liberals? Perhaps a Stupidity Tax of some sort? I feel certain Grampa would object to such a targeted tax that would so disproportionately hurt liberals. :eusa_whistle:
