Pfizer fined $2.3 billion dollars

Um, yes it is, it was part of the tech industry but is now big enough to be on it's own. Unlike you, it grew up. ;)

Pharmaceuticals have huge costs, the chemicals, testing, marketing, bribes to the FDA, bribes to the government, bribes to doctors to endorse their products, pay offs to the lawsuits when their products kill, insurance payments, lawyers. All costing millions of dollars, here's a hint: bribes are not recorded. :eusa_whistle:

Dream on, hunny bun.

Big Pharma makes a higher percentage of profit than any other industry in the U.S. Why? Because the healthcare companies donated $3.4 BILLION DOLLARS to Congress in the last decade.

no--they bribed politicians FROM BOTH PARTIES

Of course they did.

Why do you think the "Blue Dog" Democrats are fighting Obama?

This is a little dated, but still to the point...

Drug Companies Maintain "Astounding" Profits

4 May 2002 by Scott Gottlieb, New York, BMJ 2002

Pharmaceuticals again ranked as the most profitable sector in the United States, topping the annual Fortune 500 ranking of America's top industries, released this month.

The pharmaceutical industry topped all three of Fortune magazine's measures of profitability for 2001, making this decade the third in which the industry has been at or near the top in all the magazine's measures of profitability.

So you think the government can and should make this huge profit while providing the same level of treatment ?

Big Pharma Spends More On Advertising Than Research And Development, Study Finds

From 2008, data from 2004, so you can bet your ass their profits are higher:

A new study by two York University researchers estimates the U.S. pharmaceutical industry spends almost twice as much on promotion as it does on research and development, contrary to the industry’s claim.

The researchers’ estimate is based on the systematic collection of data directly from the industry and doctors during 2004, which shows the U.S. pharmaceutical industry spent 24.4% of the sales dollar on promotion, versus 13.4% for research and development, as a percentage of US domestic sales of $235.4 billion.

I propose a more effective method of dealing with this sort of outright corruption by corporations ripping off the public and our government for billions upon billions of dollars:

Publically execute the CEO.

No, I don't think I'm kidding anymore.

These bastards deserve to die for these kinds of corrupt medical scams.

Ater all, they ARE fucking with everybody's health care when they do this kind of thing.

If they are so damned greedy that they no longer care about the health of the Americans who have made them so rich, already, why should we care about their health?

Great ... now they will have to jack up the prices of the few meds allowed in the US just to cover this. Great going FDA, keeping competition out is really helping, huh?

Hey idiot, they got fined for fleecing the taxpayers, which is YOU AND I!!! And you want private corps. to control everything, right? To the detriment of all of us, right? Privatize the profit and socialize the debt. God, you neocons are dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.

Which industry is keeping Americans alive?

Not big pharma. They are not interested in finding cures, but in "helper" medicines that a person has to take (and buy) forever to feel "a little better". Seriously, look at all the commercials. Wait. Commercials? I thought all that money was supposed to be going to R&D...

I would hardly call Bextra, Lyrica, Viagra, Xanax, and many of Pfizer's other drugs...life-saving.
Yes, they do market some of their drugs for treatment for life-threatening illnesses....such as HIV, HTN, hyperlipidemia...etc...
Sure the above make life more tolerable (xanax) and comfortable for some.

So their prices will go up. People will stop buying their drugs.
Most of these drugs (with I'm sure, a few exceptions) have a "me too" drug that is manufactured by another company.
So what are some of you suggesting...that we just turn a blind eye, and a deaf ear to corrupt people who don't give a shit about us,
and are only concerned about their profits? I would be VERY pissed off if I awoke from surgery,
and a physician had prescribed Bextra for my pain management.
And this is what has been alleged. Bextra is okay for arthritis, but it "ain't all that". And Pfizer knew better.

Most people know the standard dosage for ibuprofen, tylenol, and other OTC drugs.
Would you intentionally take 1600 mg of ibuprofen, instead of 800 mg (or 600 mg, depending upon whom you ask)?
These people were allegedly increasing the allowed dosages, and people are depending on their physicians,
and these companies to keep them safe from internal bleeding, liver failure, etc... What they have done is quite frightening actually.

My understanding is that the FDA authorized them under a specific maximum dosage.
And Pfizer increased the dosages without the FDA's permission.

because some of them were corrupt, taking junkets and prostitutes paid for by PHARMA like other bad apples bribed by the Military industrial complex i am presuming, and the honest ones BELIEVED PHARMA'S self regulated testing results, of which they LIED about so that fda would continue the process and steps to approve the pill so to keep it on the market.

The whistle blower quit or was fired because of this LYING and fudging of their testing results that he ethically could not support.
