Ok...Where is the inaccuracy? The number of staffers or their salaries? Or both?
Read the 1st page of the thread :banghead:
No I asked YOU.....What part of the numbers are not accurate?.....Do you claim the First Lady Chief of Staff does not get paid $172K per year?

A million and a half dollars spread out over 120 million taxpayers is a little over a penny from each of us!

Every year, year in, year out.

My God, the horror of it all.

A million here and a million there and pretty soon you're talking real money. The First lady should have one secretary at about a GS-5 level of pay.

I've got to admit that I picked this up from another discussion forum. Just need to post this here.

There has NEVER been anyone in the White House at any time who has created such an army of staffers whose sole duties are the facilitation of the First Lady's social life. One wonders why she needs so much help, at taxpayer expense. (I'm wondering why there are no guidelines or restraints for this and other activities concerning our government officials and their kin.)

Note: This does not include makeup artist Ingrid Grimes-Miles, 49, and "First Hairstylist" Johnny Wright, 31, both of whom traveled aboard Air Force One to Europe ...

A look at some first ladies and their staff sizes:

Laura Bush: Between 24 and 26 by end of President George W. Bush's term in 2009, according to Anita McBride, Mrs. Bush's chief of staff.

Lady Bird Johnson, whose signature issue was beautifying roadways, had a staff of 30, said Stacy A. Cordery, a history professor at Montmouth [sic] College in Illinois who studies first ladies.

Betty Ford had almost the same number.

Jacqueline Kennedy, who made renovating the White House her cause, had about 40 peopleon staff, Cordery said.

I remember when Nancy Reagan spent incredible amounts for her own pleasure and convenience - like a private beauty salon and beautician.

She also threw a fit when she found out the prez has to pay for food and personal needs. She didn't know they would be presented with a bill every month and wanted the taxpayer to foot the bill.
The president of us shouldn't have to chince. They bitch because they're black and Democrats.

Executive branch has responsibilities

Since when has the First Lady become part of the Executive Branch?

Are the children also part of it?
Always has been

Martha Washington had social responsibilities in meeting legislators and foreign dignitaries. She had a large staff of servants

Michelle Obama has global responsibilities representing us around the world. She does a great job

at best a good will ambassador,

NO position in the Executive Branch
She has an office and a staff and official responsibilities

Staff gets paid....always has

Really, show me in the Constitution where the spouse of the president has any "official responsibilities"?

What Are the Criteria for Deciding Who Gets Secret Service Protection?
Major candidates are those that have considerable prominence among the public and have raised substantial money for their presidential campaigns.

Specifically, primary candidates become eligible for Secret Service protection, according to the Congressional Research Service, if they:

  • are publicly declared candidates;
  • are actively campaigning nationally and are contesting at least 10 state primaries
  • are pursuing the nomination of a qualified party, one whose presidential candidate received at least 10 percent of the popular vote in the prior election;
  • are qualified for public matching funds of at least $100,000, and have raised at least $2 million in additional contributions;
  • have received by April 1 of the election year an average of 5 percent in individual candidate preferences in the most recent national opinion polls by ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN, or have received at least 10 percent of the votes cast for all candidates in two same-day or consecutive primaries or caucuses.

Really- how can anyone not be embarressed to be citing the Canada Free Press as a primary source?

Clearly someone not actually interested in the truth.

This of course is an old internet rumor- old enough for Snopes to have addressed it in 2009

The 2008 White House Office
Staff List, issued during the final year of President George W. Bush's tenure in office, includes sixteen different staffers with the words "First Lady" in their position titles — exactly the same number as that listed for Michelle Obama in 2009. If all staffers listed with "Social Secretary" in their titles are included as part of the First Lady's retinue (as was done with the Michelle Obama example cited above), then Mrs. Bush had at least 18 people working for her in 2008 (not including any of the various personnel listed only as "Staff Assistants," some of whom may also have worked for her directly or indirectly).

In fact, according to Anita McBride, Laura Bush's former Chief of Staff, Mrs. Bush had between 24 and 26 staffers working for her by the end of her husband's second term in office. It's therefore fair to say that the size of Michelle Obama's staff is not "unprecedented," but rather on a par with her immediate predecessor's.

Just another RWNJ cheap shot- showing again how RWNJ's really don't give a damn about the facts.

Why do RWNJs believe that the constant stream of lies about the Obama's somehow helps their cause?

And WHY oh WHY are the so damn gullible that they post this same crap over and over?

Anyone wanna bet that more RWNJs will pile on, stupidly agreeing with the OP's lie?

Post ONE sane reply that refutes a SINGLE item in this post! If you can.

You didn't even bother to make any effort to check and see whether a claim from CFP was accurate- which considering the source- is more likely to be a lie than true

A million and a half dollars spread out over 120 million taxpayers is a little over a penny from each of us!

Every year, year in, year out.

My God, the horror of it all.

But, as usual, that isn't the point of the OP. Just another leftist whining about truths they don't like.

It ain't about how much is costs each taxpayer. It's about how one unelected individual somehow feels she is so much better than any other person throughout the history of this nation.

Classless is clueless. This is the perfect example.

The only thing that this is a perfect example is that this is just another thread of Right Wing cheap shots and lies directed at Michelle Obama.

The claim was that Michelle Obama had 24 staff members and Barbara Bush only had 1- and Barbara Bush had around 24.

So Canada Free Press- and you- lied.

Not the point.....
The point is shortbusknife copynpasted a rw hack post from another site that turned out to be.....wait for it.....edited in a rw hack way.

Ok...Where is the inaccuracy? The number of staffers or their salaries? Or both?

The 'inaccuracy'- what most people call 'lying' is claiming that Michelle Obama has a huge staff- and that the previous First Ladies had only 1 or 2 staffers.

As has been pointed out- Barbara Bush had around 24 or 26.

The OP lied in order to attack Michelle Obama.

You want to debate whether First Ladies should have such a big staff- fine- but take time to recognize that you were lied to in the OP and ask yourself why the OP lied to you.

Worth pointing out once again- that 12 hours after posting the lies of the OP in order to attack Michelle Obama- you still had not acknowledged that the claims in the OP were wrong.

Not that Michelle Obama has a staff- but the claims that Michelle Obama's staff was particularly different from her predecessors.

Clearly it was more important for you to attack Michelle Obama- than to defend the truth.

Executive branch has responsibilities

Executive branch has responsibilities

Since when has the First Lady become part of the Executive Branch?

Are the children also part of it?
Always has been

Martha Washington had social responsibilities in meeting legislators and foreign dignitaries. She had a large staff of servants

Michelle Obama has global responsibilities representing us around the world. She does a great job

at best a good will ambassador,

NO position in the Executive Branch
She has an office and a staff and official responsibilities

Staff gets paid....always has

NO matter how hard you want to elevate her it, Does NOT make her part of the Executive Branch.
pretty sure they are paid out of the budget for the Executive Branch...

I've got to admit that I picked this up from another discussion forum. Just need to post this here.

How things have changed! If you're one of the tens of millions of Americans facing certain destitution, earning less than subsistence wages stocking the shelves at Wal-Mart or serving up McDonald cheeseburgers, prepare to scream and then come to realize that the benefit package for these servants of MS Michelle are the same as members of the national security and defense departments and the bill for these assorted lackeys is paid by YOU, John Q. Public:

There has NEVER been anyone in the White House at any time who has created such an army of staffers whose sole duties are the facilitation of the First Lady's social life. One wonders why she needs so much help, at taxpayer expense. (I'm wondering why there are no guidelines or restraints for this and other activities concerning our government officials and their kin.)

Note: This does not include makeup artist Ingrid Grimes-Miles, 49, and "First Hairstylist" Johnny Wright, 31, both of whom traveled aboard Air Force One to Europe ...

She's part of the executive, Laura Bush really wasn't, almost like her husband.
