The bill would subject anyone selling or transferring a gun to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System and require that transfers be reported to the attorney general.
Maloney said a background check is required when a Federal Firearm Licensee wants to sell firearms at a gun show, but no such requirement exists for private sales.
Gun show operators would be required to register with the attorney general and provide information on upcoming shows, including the identity of all firearm vendors, and keep a record of all vendors’ identities.

If there is really any such level of support for this or for any other encroachment on the people's right to keep and bear arms, then where's the credible effort to amend the Constitution in order to allow it? That would be the only legitimate way to impose any such restriction; for the Second Amendment, as it currently stands, absolutely forbids any such infringements on this right.

I get that those on your side do not pursue the legitimate Amendment route because you know very well that you could never get anywhere near the support that it would take to give any such effort any plausible chance of success. That's why you engage, instead, in dishonest, corrupt, and cowardly means to try to “get around” the Constitution rather than allowing it to be properly obeyed and upheld.

By wise design, the means to amend the Constitution is nontrivial, requiring great public support. But 90% support would be more than enough to give such an effort an almost certainty of success. On September 29, Raymond Fryberg–father of Marysville-Pilchuck High School gunman Jaylen Fryberg–was found guilty of six firearm-related charges, including falsifying answers on federal forms for the purchase of a Beretta Px4 Storm handgun.

It was the Beretta handgun that 15-year-old Jaylen used to kill four students and wound another on October 24, 2014. He then took his own life.

According to Reuters, Raymond Fryberg was prohibited from buying or possessing a gun due to “a non-expiring domestic violence restraining order in 2002 after he was accused of assaulting and threatening his girlfriend.” Yet Fryberg purchased the Beretta and four other guns in 2013.

He passed a background check for the Beretta, something which prosecutors say he did by “[lying] on federal forms.” KOMO News reported that Fryberg was arrested on March 31 on charges that he “illegally purchased the firearm used in the mass shooting.”

Having been found guilty, Fryberg is scheduled to be sentenced on January 11.

It should be noted that Washington state’s new universal background check law passed by a small margin on November 4–just under two weeks after the Marysville shooting–with pledges that more background checks would reduce gun crime. However, Fryberg’s example proves again that background checks are impotent against determined criminals or those who are determined to get their hands on a gun at all costs.
