This is an old article but it sums it up. Ontario is broke. It is FAR worse now. $358B or $24.5k per citizen.

Canada won't thrive by rewarding so handsomely the least impressive among us, while we lose our best talent.

On every measure of indebtedness, Ontario is markedly worse than California. Ontarios debt is almost two-thirds larger than Californias bonded debt even though California is a much larger jurisdiction in terms of both the size of its economy and its population. Specifically, Californias bonded debt is $143.9 billion as of 2011 while Ontarios is $236.6 billion, two-thirds larger than California.

As a share of the economy, Ontarios debt (38.6 per cent) is more than five times larger than Californias debt (7.7 per cent). Ontarios per capita debt ($17,922) is over four-and-a-half times that of California ($3,833). Think about that Ontarians are handing their children a debt load between four-and-a-half and five times that of Californians.

What are the Canadians getting with all of that debt?
Where is most of that money being spent?

Healthcare (when you can get it) and policing (which is everywhere). As I've stated on here before, policing is far more pervasive than our government acknowledges (FAR more expensive than is reported), one of the original sins of our British Forefathers we never shed, and now they've helped decimate our economy.

Does Canada spend a lot more on welfare?

lol, no. I think welfare hasn't increased since 1990s! We have many poverty advocates calling out how cruel Canada is to our most vulnerable. Someone on welfare has to have one or two roomates in order to survive. I have no idea how they can do it and afford food, while trying to find work while making $500 a month or whatever it is.

Look at Ontarios sunshine list, #1 career by far making over $100k year is policing. It's a racket and a half and it's a Canadian national security threat. People are wisely saying "why are we paying a plain clothed officer $200k a year?"

Are you trying to make a case that one socialistic shithole is better than another because it's not as deep of a shit hole? Wound it not be better to clean the shit out of both shitholes?

California innovates and is in far better fiscal shape than low performing, dinosaur Ontario.
