Only in America

Only in America would people suggest a voting regulation which would ensure 11 million Americans lose the right to vote.

Only the dead and double voters would lose "their" vote

Do you have a problem with that?
You haven't invested much study into this issue, have you? The elderly, the poor, the infirmed. Three groups that probably don't have driver's licenses.

My wife doesn't have a driver's license. She has an ID issued by the state at no cost. She shows that when she goes in to vote.

Just curious, did she have to pay a fee for her I.D.?

Only in America could the rich people - who pay 86% of all income taxes - be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don't pay any income taxes at all.

By income taxes you mean taxes paid by people who work jobs for a living and draw paychecks signed by someone else?

The people who draw these paychecks are known as middle class, not rich, and pay the bulk of the taxes in this country.

The top 20% of Americans control 89% of all wealth - why shouldn't they pay the same proportion in tax?

Who Rules America: Wealth, Income, and Power

Because it is called INCOME tax, not WEALTH tax, you idiot.

That must be why I posted the word "wealth" not "income" then, I guess.

Obviously they are not the same thing - I just found the synchronicity of the 80+% interesting.

Yes you posted the word wealth and suggested that people should be taxed based on their wealth. Despite what they teach you in Finland, wealthy people are no more apt to be evil than the middle class.

Prove that voter ID would cost ANYONE with a pulse their right to vote once.

I think it's better that you go and read something about this issue so that you understand it yourself.

I think maybe you should apply your self righteousness to Finnish political discussion.

I've likely spent more time discussing and researching voter ID laws and have far more at stake than you. Puff out your chest at someone else, little man.

At no cost implies that she doesn't have to pay a fee, does it not?

All three could be applied to me at some level....... I have a drivers license...... Scary, ain't it...........

god, the shit sandwich you must have to eat every am. to believe this, hahahhah no response needed, the OP did that for himself.

I say this with the sole interest to make you a better person. It helps if you write in complete, coherent sentences even if your intention is to insult. It helps you come across as more credible when you improve your writing. Also, you come across as more credible if you address the points instead of just insulting people. But that's another day. Please think about this as you continue to post.

Only in America

1) Only in America could the rich people - who pay 86% of all income taxes - be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don't pay any income taxes at all.

2) Only in America could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General, and roughly 18% of the federal work-force is black while only 12% of the population is black.

3) Only in America could they have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner, the head of the Treasury Department and Charles Rangel who once ran the Ways and Means Committee, BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.

4) Only in America can they have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash.

5) Only in America would they make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege while we discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just 'magically' become American citizens.

6) Only in America could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country's Constitution be thought of as "extremists."

7) Only in America could you need to present a driver's license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.

8) Only in America could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company (Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).

9) Only in America could the government collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a Trillion dollars more than it has per year - for total spending of $7-Million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn't have nearly enough money.

10) Only in America could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000.00 a plate campaign fund-raising event.

This is NOT my grandfather's America...

1) Of course the wealthiest will always pay the most taxes. It's because they control the most money. No matter the tax plan: flat tax, consumption tax, progressive tax. When you hold the most, you will pay the most.

But it's amazing that some think that a flat tax is 'fair'. The top marginal rate is 39% Taxes on those folks would be cut in half while those living pay check to pay check will find it even harder to survive.

2) If there was only some way to measure pay equity among the various races...

3) No comment.

4) Would you think that a mindless backlash against all Muslims is a great idea? Religious hatred held as a standard of American comportment! Only from a Conservative!

5) Aren't you glad people still want to come to America?

6) "Extremeists" due to politcal tactics, not philosophy.

7) Cashing checks and buying alcohol are not rights. Voting is and that right must not be infringed. Funny that some think their right to own a semi-automatic rifle with a high capacity magazine should not be infringed, but voting should.

8) If our economy and very way of life was dependent on a pair of tennis shoes....

9) If we didn't wage two wars, introduce a major Medicare drug benefit and cut taxes all at once....

10) No comment

#4 Want to read about religious hatred? Read the Koran
#7 Just try to by any gun without an I.D. in most states.

Only in America can the Attorney General of the Country nearly have his ballot cast by another person and still he will claim that there is no reason to have show an ID when casting a ballot.

The dead don't have the right to vote. Neither do illegal aliens.

So you want the Koran to be the paradigm of American religious tolerance?

And thank God one shows an I.D. to buy a gun! If you aren't allowed to have background checks (as you do when registering to vote), wouldn't it make it even easier for the insane and felons to be armed?

The ends justify the means for both parties, Dem and Rep. Maybe not the people who vote those parties, but the manner in which both function.
