Report: Abbas rejected Olmert peace plan over refugees, safe passage

...Haim Ramon, who served as deputy premier under Ehud Olmert and was one of his trusted confidants, said on Monday at the Institute for National Security Studies conference that the Palestinians turned down Olmert’s offer in 2008 because of disagreements regarding the number of refugees to be allowed into Israel, and because of a Palestinian demand to control the “safe passage” that would have linked the Gaza Strip to the West Bank.

At the end of 2008, Olmert offered Abbas 93.5-to-93.7 percent of the West Bank, a one-to-one swap for most of the rest, and an arrangement whereby no one would have sovereignty over the “holy basin” surrounding Jerusalem’s Old City, but rather it would be administered by a consortium made up of the Israelis, Palestinians, Jordanians, Saudis and Americans.

Ramon revealed that in August 2008, he went to Amman to discuss the refuge issue with Abbas. “We wanted to permit a certain number of refugees into the country over a number of years, and they wanted a different number,” Ramon said.

Minister-without-Portfolio Bennie Begin had a far different take on why the Palestinians rejected Olmert’s offer, as well as that of then-prime minister Ehud Barak in 2000.

The Palestinian rejection of both offers, he said, had to do with “the refusal of the Palestinians to understand that Judaism, beyond just being a religion, is also a nationality. Their refusal to recognize this [Israel] as a Jewish state, like their refusal to recognize that the Temple stood on Mount Moriah, expresses their refusal to accept that we have a title to this land.”

Abbas turned down the above because he wants " Right of Return", ( Not going to happen), not a single Jew in E. Jerusalem where their most religious sites are, and they actually wanted some control within the " 67 Borders" that the allegedly acknowledge as Israel's :cuckoo: lol

Not going to happen. Let him knock himself out with his insisting on those conditions which will never be met :clap2:

They don't have title to East Jerusalem.

They don't have title to East Jerusalem.

And so the Pals continue to reject a negotiated settlement and continue to wallow in "refugee" squalor. Maybe it's time the UN pulls its welfare state and allows them to wallow on their own, eh? :D

The first step is the Israeli's. They need to end the occupation, economic blockade, stop building illegal settlements and get their fuckin' asses out of the West Bank, Golan Heights and East Jerusalem.

Then you can start negotiating.

That "squalor", is a direct result of the Israeli occupation.

End the occupation, you end the "squalor".

The Palestinians?I know they don't Prior to 67 that land was part of Jordan; not "Palestine"

End the occupation, you end the "squalor".

Olmert gave Abbas almost everything he wanted and it was rejected. He is not going to get everything his way . Israel left Gaza and we see the response was more rockets and Abbas silence

Translation; The 67 borders that the Arabs themselves have rejected? Not going to happen. Tell us why rockets into Israel increased after Israel left Gaza immediately

You haven't left an area if you control 80% of what goes in to (and out of) it.

As long as the occupation continues, everything should be rejected.

If Abbas gets everything his way tell us what there is to " negotiate" about. The answer is " nothing "
Forgot two things; He actually wants some of the "67" land to provide passage between the W Bank and Gaza; something they obviously didn't have before. He also wants Palestinian Control over it. Tell us why they are entitled to any land within the borders that were never recognized and what he is offering . Then tell us why they should have any control within the borders that never existed. Two more reasons why there will never be a "Palestinian State"

And afterwards we get the fuck out of Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem and Be'er Sheva and Eilat and Netanya and Naharia and......

All easy, Eh?

Obviously you have no idea what you're talking about.

In WB there are over 400,000 Jews. in Golan about more than 18,000. in EJ 185,000.

This is not Gush Katif when you end this in one day taking 8000 out. This in itself was a hard task, but you're talking about taking out more than 500,000 people out of their homes.

Do you know how big will the civil war be??? Why don't you stop for a moment and use your big brain here?

Do you think this is easy? Do you know how many people will fight this if they'll even THINK it can come to pass? How much blood will be spilled to save the homeland??

No, obviously, you do not. So tell you what. When you leave your home, so will they.

They do not care about how many get " displaced". Ironically, neither do I . It's a lot less complicated then that. Very simply, Israel is not going to go back to "borders that were ever recognized or accepted by the Arab World. In addition they want " Right of Return" and want control over some of the land within the "borders" that we're never recognized or accepted. Hope Abbas keeps on insisting. He will get nothing

Palestinian's are not building illegal settlements on jewish land. There are no Palestinian checkpoints in Israel. No jewish homes are getting bulldozed down in the middle of the night by Palestinian security forces.

Since your are completely void of any sense of empathy, I realize you don't understand a single thing I just said.

Right of return to where?

I am always left somehow wondering when you say "right of return".

If there will be a Palestinian state, in a hypothetic situation, then there will be NO right of return. That'd be a no-no.

They have no other choice. That is their only option. Ever since WWII ended, it has been illegal to acquire land by force. And there isn't a single country on this planet that recognizes Israeli's right to that land. After 45 years, you would think you'd catch the clue.

But since you don't, someone needs to go in there and bitch-slap you people back to your own fuckin' country. What you want, didn't work for the nazis and it won't work for you. It's time to embrace the horror, you ain't gettin' that land.
