Who in the hell does the US government and the gulf coast state governments think they are telling British Petroleum how they should handle the oil spill or even to suggest what safety measures they should have taken or should take in the future to prevent accidents. This all adds cost to doing business. In a free market all of these regulations make it more difficult for our local production to compete in the world market.

The US government is also threatening to add more regulations to the mining industry. Another example of BIG GOVERNMENT interfering in our lives and our free markets.

Obama is turning the USA into a socialist state.

The oil companies leased federal and public land out in the Gulf, they want to reap the rewards when they strike oil and they need to accept the responsibility when accidents take place.

We certainly don't need more regulations though, oil spills that happen are pretty rare considering how much activity there is world wide in drilling for oil.

You object to that?

Take it up with the wives of the miners killed in West Virginia
Tell it to the wives of the men killed on the oil rig

Umm, so we should let them be reckless and ruin the environment? This has nothing to do with socialism, which is an economical system

I guess we should allow companies to dump toxic waste in the land and sell untested, unproven drugs that can harm people also

There are new "acoustic shutoff valves" that could have been installed at the well head that could be shut in case of an accident.

The cost of that valve ($500,000) would have saved $Billions in cleanup costs. IMHO the government needs to INSIST that all future wells have an acoustic shutoff valve installed. If the oil companies refuse, then they don't get to drill off-shore. We can't allow these massive oil spills, when they are preventable.

You're an idiot.
Hopefully they'll be creating a nuclear waste disposal site in your back yard, a nice earthquake hits, the shit leaks and you and your family members are made sterile, greatly improving the gene pool in your area.

I dont think its fair that we should have to pay for any of this crap. they make enough money off us to save our environment. The funny thing is , they will raise gas prices to pay for this anyway. This just sucks.

A new regulation requiring a $500,000 acoustic shut-off valve at every well-head would prevent disasters like this. Lobbyists probably bought-ff the DC whores to save all that money, which resulted in at least one gigantic oil spill.

Where was the EPA? What did the Energy Department do? A few heads need to roll.

I know Republicans get tired of hearing how their policies of "de-regulation" have turned so many things to shit, but what else can you say?

So don't believe me. Do some research using the following terms:

OSHA

"Voluntary Compliance"

Bush Administration

And add the words together. What come up?

Well, I found it absolutely AMAZING that our Messiah President just gave his approval for oil drilling off the coast of Virgina.

Basically saying it's O.K. for a "private sector" business to create hundreds of "private sector JOBS"--without costing the tax payers of this county billions of dollars to create those JOBS---:lol:

Amazing--isn't it?

Well, in Bush's defense, he was an oil man.
