On the Border, Republicans Set a Trap, Then Fell Into It

But Democrats tripped them up by offering substantial — almost unheard-of — concessions on immigration policy without insisting on much in return. Now it is Republicans who are rapidly abandoning a compromise that gave them much of what they wanted, leaving aid to Ukraine in deep jeopardy, border policy in turmoil and Congress again flailing as multiple crises at home and abroad go without attention because of a legislative stalemate.
Lies.
The Repub are smart enough to know that the Dems are pulling a fake stunt here. They finally accept that their base preferred Trump's way of handling the border, so they are trying to save face. No more, no less.

But, its not believable. Why? You ask.
Because the Dems fought too hard, since 2012, to turn the border into what it is today --to just, abandon it all now overnight-- once Repubs recently spooked Democrat voters about Biden Admin treasonous immigration activity at the border.

The turn of events led to a remarkable Capitol Hill spectacle this week as a parade of Senate Republicans almost instantly repudiated a major piece of legislation they had spent months...

More lies!

There was no turn of events, no remarkable spectacle. Just Repubs sticking to Build more wall. Reinstate Trump-era immigration policies. Or simply shut down the U.S.-Mexico border.

Repubs are doing the right thing, by continuing to remind American voters that Biden already has all the authority he needs to halt the flow of migrants through the U.S.-Mexico border. Trump's Repubs want to make sure the bill is dead on arrival, so Trump can keep hammering Biden on immigration/reminding America of the 8M illegal imms Biden intentionally let into the country. That is a beautiful strategy, too. It exposes Biden, for the fake fuccery Dems pulled in this newest proposal.

I don't think so. Americans aren't big proponents of sending billions of dollars to Ukraine and Israel to keep funding their wars either. Additionally, it makes no sense to me to continue to allow migrants to cross the border when we have millions here we can't even process due to backlog. The border needs to be 100% closed to migrants until we get caught up and have a realistic way of dealing with this.
No one in the history of the US has ever been able to close the southern border to migrants. Do you have any idea of how to accomplish that?

False.
Biden confirmed that it was closed until his handlers made him change his story for political expediency.

It will never be 100%. People will find a way to sneak through, but in the meantime we shouldn't be willingly letting anyone cross over which is what is happening now.

Crossing over is doing well because a large portion of our border guards are on the take, and always have been. Why not supplement a $17/hr. wage with $3600 per car load of four people.

Congressional Republicans thought they had set a clever trap for Democrats that would accomplish complementary political and policy goals.

Their idea was to tie approval of military assistance to Ukraine to tough border security demands that Democrats would never accept, allowing Republicans to block the money for Kyiv that many of them oppose while simultaneously enabling them to pound Democrats for refusing to halt a surge of migrants at the border. It was to be a win-win headed into November’s elections.

The turn of events led to a remarkable Capitol Hill spectacle this week as a parade of Senate Republicans almost instantly repudiated a major piece of legislation they had spent months demanding as part of any agreement to provide more help to a beleaguered Ukraine.

“A year ago they said, ‘We need a change in the law,’” said Mr. Lankford, frustrated by his Republican colleagues who had been up in arms about the border situation only to suddenly reject the new legislation. “Now the conversation is, ‘Just kidding, we don’t need a change in the law. We just need the president to use the laws they already have.’ That wasn’t where we were before.”

Looks like Biden and the Dems are playing 3-D chess while the poor Republicans are still trying to figure out the game. Is there anything the Repubs can get done? Heck, even their attempts to impeach the president or Mayorkas have gone aground.
Pass the damn bill, dupe.

No, not “til we get caught up”… closed period.

Part of the GOP opposition had to do with the Ukraine/Israel funding

Dems stripped that out and offered it up separately and low and behold… it passed

So that was a lie and the opposition was ONLY about solving this issue

Trump very loudly came out against the bill and Lankford noted that he had received a call from a nationally syndicated right wing radio host telling him that the bill should not pass because it would take an important issue away from Trump and threatening him politically.

Lankford of course ended up voting against his own bill

You are delusional if you think dems are scoring ANY wins in the border wars. You guys are in deep shit. Your policies sucked and Americans fucking hate the results.

Ukraine funding wont even be taken up for vote in Congress. No funding for these wars until the border is secured. This will be our winning position all the way up to the election. You guys are fucked.
