Olympics ratings in the dumper

The streaming service seems to let viewers decide what to watch and not rely on National Network coverage top see the real competition.

Olympics are for profits for the Olympic Committees and local Politicians. Last are the Host Cities and the Athletes.

The Olympics have been boring
Politics have nothing to do with it
Then why the drop in watching the opening ceremony before anyone could tell if it would be boring or not? Politics plays a role and you're in denial to think otherwise.

Ratings for sporting events in general have been declining. SJW's have ruined sports for a good deal of the population.

Olympic Ratings Fall Sharply: NBC Says 17 Million Watched Opening Ceremony In U.S.

I do believe that the younger generation watch less and less T.V so this is going to contribute to falling ratings across many genres and events. It's going to make social media companies that much more powerful.

Add the Wuhan Virus, a general disinterest in any patriotic flag waving in the U.S and ratings for these events in particular will fall.

Then of course, there is the anti-Americanism which people are rejecting which is a big issue and it's going to cost the West dearly. China will remain the only nation state on earth, Nationalistic (remember this is a bad word in Western politics) and patriotic.

Sponsorship pays the cities....and they must have advertisers or the city goes broke holding the games....

Because the opening ceremony was bizarre.
A spectacle held before an empty stadium

No one wants to see people disrespecting America....so they just don't turn it on....two weeks ago a soccer game beat game 5 NBA finals....keep it up you dumb jocks.....and soon you will need a night job to make ends meet.....

It is the suckers with cable and othwr bills that support this. To watch someone shove a hot rebar poker up Rappones ass while she begs for her live would be pay for view. Either way, many people now have reduced helping others.

Not true....
In 1984, Los Angeles did something unusual: it hosted the Olympics and turned a profit. The Games generated a surplus of more than $200 million, something no other host city had done since 1932—the only other time Los Angeles hosted the Olympics.

That has a partial paywall.

Most all sports are committing suicide
Substituting the feelings of the individual athlete, frequently coerced, for the entertainment and feelings of the tens of thousand who attend and millions who watch, All of whom pay the freight.

imagine for example your waiter taking a knee when he comes to your table.

Profit for Olympic games go on well after the games have ended as well as prestige for the city which attracts businesses....and industry....these numbers never get added to the profit table....this is why cities want to host the games....

In all honesty this probably has a lot to do with no good streaming options to watch.
Many millions of Americans don't have cable anymore. We stream.
Roku channel has highlites and replays but not live.
Peacock has much more high lights and replays and only some things live.
Fubo and Hulu+ have it live, but most streamers don't buy that.
Well said

wait till next year when the games are in china

t think the ratings will be worse

Not really. It took Montreal 30 years to pay off the debt from the 1976 games.

"It took Montreal until 2006 to pay off the last of its debt from the 1976 Games, while Greece’s billions in Olympics debt helped bankrupt the country."
