The incident has been “under investigation” for a month. There is video including audio of the event. Yet it is still being investigated.

Video shows off-duty officer pulling gun on man mistakenly suspected of stealing Mentos – Orange County Register

You just know that the moron cop would abuse any authority he was granted. You can easily imagine Barney Fife pulling his gun every chance he got. In the TV show that was why Andy made Barney keep his one bullet in his pocket. But even the real Barney Fife wasn’t that gun happy.

Obviously this idiot should be fired. Then anyone who supervised the moron should be questioned as to how they let that jackass become a cop or remain a cop.

But so far nada. I guess it is pretty hard to understand the nuances of a two minute encounter where a gun was pulled by a badge wearing idiot.

If you really want to improve the way the public sees cops then step one is to weed out idiots quickly instead of covering for them.

Maybe the cop thought the suspect was going to make a bomb with them. Did the guy also buy CocaCola??? Mix the two and boom

That guy was lucky. Cops have killed people for far less.

Kinda hard to fault the off-duty cop.

Everyone knows that black people are prone to thievery and such.

He should be praised for his vigilance in the interest of public safety. .....

He should be fired and arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

Read the article. There isn’t anyone praising the cop. And with good reason. The actions were and are indefensible. The cop is the punk in this story. The cop is the violent thug that you pretend to object to.

What we need is a larger more powerful government.

You like saying that. Buena Park is not a major metropolis. So it can’t be a problem with big government since it was an incident with one cop.

Expecting the Government to obey the rules is not demanding bigger government. Expecting the existing levels of government to do their jobs is also not a call for bigger government.

But for the sake of argument. Just to prove your observation is not only irrelevant to this issue, but asinine to boot. Let’s argue we need a government that is half the current size. Or even one tenth. What then?

The Department of Justice is among other duties, supposed to police the police. They are the ones who are supposed to watch the watchers. One of the things that almost made Hillary a hold your nose vote worthy candidate was Trumps stated desire to end investigations into police departments and police misconduct.

Cops don’t care about lawsuits. It doesn’t cost them anything. The city, county, or state taxpayers foot the bill.

In New York, complaints that have been found valid, most often with video evidence, no punishment is endured by the police. The Chief tosses the recommendations into the trash. New York proves that the police will not hold themselves accountable.

The investigation in Buena Park for this event has been going on for a month. If it took an hour to “investigate” the majority of the time would have been writing the report. If it had been the other way around and a citizen had pointed a gun at a cop in similar circumstances the citizen would have been arrested, charged, and denied bail by now. In another month or so the citizen would be convicted.

So is less government what we need to end police misconduct? Please describe how that works. I’m honestly interested.
