Under the ACA private citizens manage their own healthcare.

That would be the case with a single payer system as well, such as Medicare expanded to cover everyone – which would be the best solution.

Under expanded Medicare everyone would be covered. Those who wish to and can afford it would be able to purchase private health insurance as a supplement.

That day is coming, it’s unfortunate that many must needlessly suffer while waiting for that day.

The ACA regulates insurance companies, purchasers, and group providers of insurance. In reality, there is very little in the law about healthcare other than quality incentives for hospitals. You have just as much control over your actual healthcare as did before the law.

The Independent Payment Advisory Board, or IPAB has the authority to change the Medicare payment rates. It has no control over what private insurance pay nor what doctors and hospitals charge. Prior to the IPAB, Medicare had an internal board which made these decisions. Unlike Medicare, IPAB is charged with making changes that will not effect quality of service. It's a definite improvement.

What is the proper role of government?

The proper role of government is to protect the individual rights (police, courts, military & perhaps roads and bridges). which include property riights. What we have now is a mixed economy, a mixture of controls and freedoms. Lots of Statism, Socialism, Marxism. Lots of straightjackets, in varying degrees, placed upon you, other individuals and businesses.

What is needed is pure, laissez-faire capitalism. It is the only economic system that fully supports an individual's right to his own life and property. It will produce monumental growth in the economic sector. It has never existed as yet.

After seven years of promising to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Republican efforts at passing a health care bill on their own may have ended Monday night as the bill working its way through the Senate was effectively blocked. Two more GOP senators – Mike Lee of Utah and Jerry Moran of Kansas – came out in opposition to the bill, which means it cannot get enough support to pass.

Every other country has socialized healthcare for all their citizens. So the rest of the world are complete morons? Or maybe just you?
