NYT clears Romney: No Evidence Romney lied

NY Times: 'No Evidence' Romney Did Bain Business

There is no evidence that Mitt Romney exercised his powers at private equity firm Bain Capital after 1999 or directed funds’ investments after leaving, The New York Times reported.

Although some documents place the Republican presidential hopeful in charge of Bain from 1999 to 2001, a period in which the company outsourced jobs and ran companies that fell into bankruptcy, it is not related to who was running Bain at the time, the Times reported.

Romney has tried to distance himself from this period in Bain's history, saying on financial disclosure forms he had no active role in Bain as of February 1999.

“It’s a disconnect between the ownership interest and managerial functions,” Harvey Pitt, who served as S.E.C. chairman under President George W. Bush, told the Times. “When Bain takes positions in public companies, they’re required to show anyone who has an ownership interest that could be the effective equivalent of control. So Romney has to be shown on those filings.

No offense, but that links to Newsmax - not the NY Times. Where is the direct NY Times link?

In the first paragraph of the article....

Must we always lend you a helping hand, Shitting Bull?

Okay, where is the link? That link in the article doesn't work for me.

Where is the link to the "actual" NY Times article?
It was not provided because it has stuff like this:

When Mitt Romney was running for governor of Massachusetts a decade ago, Democrats went before a state commission to demand that he be struck from the ballot. Their argument: After taking over the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, he had ceased to live and work in Massachusetts, the state where he had built Bain Capital into one of the leading private equity firms in the world.

Mr. Romney’s team was just as insistent in arguing the opposite. For 30 years, his lawyer argued, “the center of his social, civic and business life has been in this commonwealth.”

Now, amid the heat of the presidential campaign and unrelenting attacks from Democrats over Mr. Romney’s tenure at Bain, the three-year sojourn in Utah has again become the source of controversy — but with the positions reversed.

President Obama and the Democrats are questioning whether Mr. Romney really left Bain in February 1999, when he took over the Olympics. And Mr. Romney and the Republicans are insisting that he ended his day-to-day management role at Bain after taking the Olympics job.

Which begs the question was Willard lying then or is Willard lying now. Willard cannot be telling the truth both times.

Only it's not that simple. It's about people Misunderstanding the Difference between Owning it, and running it, and the Difference between Bain and Bain and CO.

But you don't care about that, all you care about is defeating Romney. Facts don't really matter.

So he was an absentee owner in charge of the company; responsible for nothing but getting paid just the same.

Yep, Which Obama and his Supporters have known all along.

They know there is no Truth to the Felony charge, and they know Romney had nothing to do with Decisions after 1999 at Bain.

They don't care, they know the stains their Mud slinging leave will be enough, no matter how dishonest they are.

The truth is pretty muddy actually. The truth is that if he disagreed with what the "present" ownership was doing, he could have stopped it if he was actually the absentee owner in charge of the company....

Obama has nothing to apologize for.

shocker

Looks like the NY Times is going to cover their asses on this one. Normally, they are as partisan as the day is long. However, there comes a time when half-truths and splitting hairs just won't go far enough to hide the truth. In those times, the NY Times is required to strictly speak the truth, as much as it may pain them to do so.

I'd give kudos to them, but I don't think they'd have printed this if they could have spun it in any way at all.

Which is really, the best indictment to the innocence of Romney in this particular issue.

The worst economy in 70 years?
Fast and furious
Over stepping his powers in ways that would make Bush turn pink.
Gave a free pass to a million illegal clearly outside of his powers.

Yet to you Obama hasn't done anything wrong? Romney may in fact be a liar and did things that certainly won't paint him in a good light, but Obama has done much wrong.

It no longer matters what's best for this nation...Agenda means more.

Actually his connection to Bain goes well past the Olympics, all the way to after he was elected governor when all his holdings were supposed to be in a blind trust.

Mitt Romney Bain Capital Document Lists Him As 'Managing Member' In 2002

WASHINGTON -- Add another document to the pile of evidence contradicting Mitt Romney's continued insistence that he ended his active role with Bain Capital in early 1999, part of his long-running effort to avoid responsibility for the company's activity, related to outsourcing and bankruptcies, during the years that followed.

A corporate document filed with the state of Massachusetts in December 2002 -- a month after Romney was elected governor -- lists him as one of two managing members of Bain Capital Investors, LLC "authorized to execute, acknowledge, deliver and record any recordable instrument purporting to affect an interest in real property, whether to be recorded with a Registry of Deeds or with a District Office of the Land Court."

In August 2011, Romney told federal authorities, as part of the financial disclosure process, that he "retired from Bain Capital on February 11, 1999 to head the Salt Lake Organizing Committee [for the 2002 Winter Olympics]. Since February 11, 1999, Mr. Romney has not had any active role with any Bain Capital entity and has not been involved in the operations of any Bain Capital entity in any way."

Bain Capital Investors is a Bain Capital entity.

Does that mean he will return all the money he was paid?????????????

You mean his retirement package? The package he specifically recieved because he was no longer working there?

Why on earth would he do that?

No silly moron. The money he was paid in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Maybe even 2003.
All for running Bain and those other companies owned by Bain.

"We have uncovered documents that reveal he was actively involved in Bain Capital businesses, even though he claimed he retired from the private equity company in 1999,” Gov. Granholm told viewers Thursday night. “Current TV has learned that Mitt Romney was the 100% stakeholder in 11 Bain Capital entities later than 1999. Romney signed, in 2003, a Massachusetts State Ethics Commission document stating he held several ‘executive’ positions at Bain Capital and its affiliates.”

You need to work on your reading comprehension. Read the Article from start to finish. As an Owner, the Article stated, it would have been a violation to not list him.

So he ran all of these things while putting in 12-16 hr days at the Olympics?

We definitely need a man who can work so hard as President.
