Norwegian shooter/bomber Anders Behring Breivik left behind a 1,500-page "manifesto," and its ideas bear an eerie similarity to American right-wing thought.

Before the deadly attack in Norway that killed 76 people, suspect Anders Behring Breivik left a long trail of material meticulously outlining his political beliefs. His 1,500-page political manifesto, titled "A European Declaration of Independence," seeks common cause with xenophobic right-wing groups around the world, particularly in the United States. It draws heavily on the writing of prominent anti-Islam American bloggers, as well as Unabomber Ted Kaczynski. His writing reveals he is a right-wing nationalist fueled by a combined hatred of Muslims, Marxists, multiculturalists and feminist women. Even after the massacre in Norway, some right-wing pundits in the United States have come out in defense of Breivik’s analysis. We speak with Jeff Sharlet, an author who has written extensively about right-wing movements in the United States, who has read much of Breivik’s 1,500-page manifesto. "What struck me most about this document is just how American it is in every way. I mean, a huge amount of it is from American sources," Sharlet says. "He’s a great admirer of America, because he says United States, unlike Europe, has maintained its 'Christian identity.

It's almost the end, but you got to admit white folks had a good run.

You can't believe anything from your link. It is a liberal progressive site. NPR has labeled it a "left-liberal and opinion site". The editorial staff is headed by founder and executive editor Don Hazen, a former publisher of Mother Jones, a liberal news organization heavily dedicated to Barack Obama. Find a neutral source and we'll debate.

I couldn't find it on Fox News... Why don't you read the Manifesto and draw your own conclusions. I'm sure you're familiar with "right-wing thinkers"...

Find a neutral source and we'll debate.

You mean somewhere between TRUTH and FICTION...?

I don't consider this guy something that the Tea Party stands for, let me start out by saying that.

However.... at the same time... any time you embrace an extremist, unyielding ideology.... you are going to attract extremist, unyielding people.

How many times has the folks on here bawled about being called racists? I don't think the Tea Party is racist. I think that their message attracts a lot of Racists and hate inspired people, but the ideology itself is not necessarily racist.

Perhaps this tragedy and the one in Arizona should be a "shot across the bow" to the leaders of the Tea Party and it's people that they need to ease back a little, become a little more mainstream. Stop with the vitriol and hate of everything "not them". Because simply being Conservative isn't what is causing this.... it's the delivery system of their message.

It is strange how the two murderous radical groups in the world sound the same. Those on the lunatic right sound just the same as the Jihadists. Just transpose a few words, and the messages are indistinguishable.

"Having mistakenly assumed that the story of terror in Oslo belonged to the narrative of the war on terrorism, we are now placing it firmly within the equally familiar narrative of white racism and anti-Islamic fanaticism.

Aren't we missing the point once again? Breivik was not, in fact, a killer of immigrants or Muslims. He was a killer of Norwegians. The particular set of obsessions that led him to madness and then to mass murder were not merely racist. They also sprang from an insane conviction that his own government was illegitimate."

[...]

"There is also a right-wing version of this argument, one that has been honed to perfection by novelist Charles McCarry (in Lucky Bastard, he imagines that the Bill Clinton-like American president is a Communist agent and his Hillary-like wife is his controller). More recently, right-wing illegitimism has taken the form of birtherism." What Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik and American "birthers" have in common. - By Anne Applebaum - Slate Magazine

Why should we debate the fantasies of the left? Did he model this massacre after actions taken here? No. Shouldnt you get back to 9-11 being an inside job?

Here we go. You do realize Longhner was not a member oif the tea party nor would he have listen to any message from the tea party or anyone on the conservative side. If you want to blame anyone oe anything why don't you blame something that he was known to have listen to. Like something from the liberal side and his music anti-flag.

Do you honestly think something will have an affect on someone even when they would not listen to it?

Far left guys have been pushing this BS for a few years now but it doesnt resonate anywhere except in the nether-regions of the internet and on MSNBC, which is to say it is clearly a fringe view.........

Consider. How many people watch MSNBC each night? Like 812......maybe?

Nobody cares about this except the k00ks...............

I'm not seeing a lot of right wingers going around and shooting hundreds of people with their weaponry. I do see a lot of people exercising their second Amendment privileges sans murder.
This couldn't be the left tarnishing Americans on the right, who do not know and did nothing to encourage the Norwegian fellow to kill his fellow countrymen, could it? God forbid.

For all I know, this diatribe could be coming from someone in al Qaeda trying to raise animosities between Americans. It's called divide and conquer, and I am calling for my fellow posters on both the right and the left to ignore this kind of tripe, don't let al Qaeda and its worldwide coconspirators make you mad at each other.

My two cents.

And by the way, Lakhota, this is fully a crock trying to destroy this country. If you succeed, this world will cave to starvation, massive untreated disease, and expedient mass murders by uncontrolled criminal dictatorships worldwide.

Destroy America, and you destroy American charities, American interventions, American innovations, and American peace efforts. In short, you will be destroying your own interests. Please stop pushing petty moronic drivel. Thanks.

ooooooooooooooooooooooooo.....almost a Liberal FAUX Noise, huh??

*

It's not surprising you're trying to avoid the Subject At Hand!!

"Writer Pat Buchanan, who is among the most prominent of White Nationalists in the mainstream, a friend of American Renaissance's Taylor and who's group the American Cause employs YWC associate Marcus Epstein as Executive Director, has taken up this mantra as well, calling Breivik ..."evil — a cold-blooded, calculating killer" and doing the obligatory whining about the right being associated with him. Then, ever the crusader against multiculturalism, he pulls this line out of his ass: "As for a climactic conflict between a once-Christian West and an Islamic world that is growing in numbers and advancing inexorably into Europe for the third time in 14 centuries, on this one, Breivik may be right."

Let me see...if the characterization of his manifesto is correct then he's:

Christian chauvinist? check
Hates Islam? - check
Anti-femist -check
Anitgovernment -check
targeted "liberals" for political assassination? check

He seems like a "Christian" national socialist, and one with a definite racial overtimes on how things ought to be, too.

I'm not sure I can see how debatable this topic really is.

What ELSE can we call somebody with those attributes, attitudes, and who did such an heinous act of terrror on children?

It really shows how liberalism can push an individual to the breaking point eh???

He attacked kids tho and thats just wrong...... You don't attack children.

The guy is insane because he was shooting kids.

He's no better than the Muslim extremists he claims to hate.

I understand him tho - all he wanted was his liberty and individual identity - the labor party stole that from him and ordered him to be just another face in a crowed.

Individuals will snap when they have their liberty taken from them. Because real liberalism is based on liberty - people want freedom and they're not sheep, and progressives treat people like sheep.

This guy went crazy and killed kids tho - a real classical liberal would never do that.
