And what about left-wing hate radio?

When I see you folks being intellectually honest, I'll believe this stuff isn't just a steaming pole of partisan horseshit, a transparent attempt to stifle opposing speech.

Evidently YOU have never like me taken any journalism classes, much less do I think you are able of sound reasoning and rational thinking!
Rush,Sean,et.al. you consider "hate" they are very very clear they are "commentators"... NOT newscasters...
Here in case you don't comprehend the difference... "commentators" are like editorial writers or "columnists" they have an opinion.
Now Schultz, Matthews, Madow, THEY don't consider themselves "commentators" but "newspeople".. journalists"!
But THEY have a bias they don't admit it!!!

They too are commentators but do they tell you they are conservative/liberal/progressive? NO because they are AFRAID like most liberals of
the being called "liberals"... so they are "public" news reporters!!!!

And idiots like yOU believe every word including these words from so -called "journalists"..

I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above – above the world, he’s sort of God."

i wish someone would get on all the Radio broadcasts here in S.Cal period......IT SUCKS!.....some of the worst radio in the Country....

Harry, I'm glad you were brave enough to take on the first sentence of the OP here. I couldn't translate it into English.

As for your content, whatever it is, the way to address it is to communicate with the station(s). They're your airwaves so you get to comment and what's more they have to keep a public file of all comments -- and they also have to justify themselves to the FCC come license renewal time. You can comment there too. Because if a broadcaster isn't serving the public interest, we can pull their plug.

Granted we don't have much pulling power individually, but that's the part that has to change.

im just one guy Pogo......but i dont listen to talk Radio it sucks and to many dam commercials.....i am talking about the so called "Classic Rock" stations out here.....same bands same 5 songs by those bands.....i guess Led Zeppelin only did 5 songs.....know what im saying?......i wish KNAC,KDAY and KMET....were back with the format they had back in the early 70's......:eusa_eh:......

Ah well we could open a whole 'nother topic on the music side of it. A big one. Wouldn't have anything to do with the Fairness Doctrine, but FWIW you can still write and bitch to them.

You have a nice choice on the dial where you live for fresh music. May I recommend Tom Schnabel's show on KCRW (Sunday afternoon)*. As for Led Zeppelin, they may have only done five original songs, as they are the biggest plagiarists in music history. I could give you some links... oh man could I give you some links, don't get me started....

*(I was listening to Tom Schabel's show just yesterday on my new internet radio, which I highly recommend for music choices. I did a thread over here...)

Talk radio is fine. Hate radio is not fine.

What the Fairness Doctrine did from 1949 to 1987 was require that controversy on the radio be a dialogue (multiple voices). Once it was abolished by the Reaganites was exactly when we got the Lush Rimjob monologue style, where you could just blurt out anything and never have to put up with a challenge to it. The timing of that is significant; our discourse has been hyperpolarized ever since.

No, what is did was STIFLE controversy on the radio. Rather than risk being punished for not giving exactly equal time to both sides...they just didn't put either side on. It was and is a blatant muzzle on free speech, and anyone in favor of it is half a step above a traitor.

So in other words having both sides represented is "stifling free speech", and anyone who does want to hear both sides, well you're going to beat them about the head with your axle.

Thanks for clearing that up.

By the way -- ever seen a political debate? Ever seen one where one candidate talked and the other had his mic shut off?

OK then.

Rush is right, he is closer to being a real journalist than all the boot-licking hacks on the major networks. However, that doesn't mean he claimed to be a real journalist. The Obama propaganda organs do not broadcast news.

Now by popular demand! A list of some of the songs Zep stole from other artists:

"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" - A folk song by Anne Bredon, this was originally credited as "traditional, arranged by Jimmy Page," then "words and music by Jimmy Page," and then, following legal action, "Bredon/Page/Plant."
"Black Mountain Side" - uncredited version of a traditional folk tune previously recorded by Bert Jansch.
"Bring It On Home" - the first section is an uncredited cover of the Willie Dixon tune (as performed by the imposter Sonny Boy Williamson).
"Communication Breakdown" - apparently derived from Eddie Cochran's "Nervous Breakdown."
"Custard Pie" - uncredited cover of Bukka White's "Shake 'Em On Down," with lyrics from Sleepy John Estes's "Drop Down Daddy."
"Dazed And Confused" - uncredited cover of the Jake Holmes song (see The Above Ground Sound Of Jake Holmes).
"Hats Off To (Roy) Harper" - uncredited version of Bukka White's "Shake 'Em On Down."
"How Many More Times" - Part one is an uncredited cover of the Howlin' Wolf song (available on numerous compilations). Part two is an uncredited cover of Albert King's "The Hunter."
"In My Time Of Dying" - uncredited cover of the traditional song (as heard on Bob Dylan's debut).
"The Lemon Song" - uncredited cover of Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor" - Wolf's publisher sued Zeppelin in the early 70s and settled out of court.
"Moby Dick" - written and first recorded by Sleepy John Estes under the title "The Girl I Love," and later covered by Bobby Parker.
"Nobody's Fault But Mine" - uncredited cover of the Blind Willie Johnson blues.
"Since I've Been Lovin' You" - lyrics are the same as Moby Grape's "Never," though the music isn't similar.
"Stairway To Heaven" - the main guitar line is apparently from "Taurus" by Spirit.
"White Summer" - uncredited cover of Davey Graham's "She Moved Through The Fair."
"Whole Lotta Love" - lyrics are from the Willie Dixon blues "You Need Love."

Anyone who advocates a Fairness Doctrine has absolutely no concept of what free speech is.

We'll see...

And you are damned straight the abolition of the Fairness Doctrine gave rise to the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, MSNBC, Rachel Maddow, et al.

Thanks. It's my theory, so I appreciate the affirmation. I suspect we may be assessing the results of that effect quite differently though. When I say the abolition of the FD gave rise to Limblob, I refer to the concept of a rhetorical con artist who's free to ply his trade entirely absent any counterpoint to it. That doesn't foment discourse; it foments division and character assassination and the extremism of "eliminationism", a political concept whelped at the side of hate radio, largely by Limblob himself: the concept that "they" are not just wrong on this or that issue; they're actually evil subhuman bacterial ogres that must be sanitized from the face of the earth.

This I believe was the starting point of that concept, and it's the wages of monologue. Even here in this forum (or any other) we see the constant denigration of "libtards", "fascists", "socialists", "liberal scum", on and on ad nauseum. There are even posters on this board (and others) making reference to the "Democrat Party", which is a dead giveaway that not only are their ears attached to Limblob like leeches (it's his malaprop), but that he's the only voice they're attached to. The proof is in the putting-down.

That is the absolute beauty of a free press:

In America there is scarcely a hamlet that has not its newspaper. It may readily be imagined that neither discipline nor unity of action can be established among so many combatants, and each one consequently fights under his own standard. All the political journals of the United States are, indeed, arrayed on the side of the administration or against it; but they attack and defend it in a thousand different ways. They cannot form those great currents of opinion which sweep away the strongest dikes. This division of the influence of the press produces other consequences scarcely less remarkable. The facility with which newspapers can be established produces a multitude of them; but as the competition prevents any considerable profit, persons of much capacity are rarely led to engage in these undertakings. Such is the number of the public prints that even if they were a source of wealth, writers of ability could not be found to direct them all. The journalists of the United States are generally in a very humble position, with a scanty education and a vulgar turn of mind. The will of the majority is the most general of laws, and it establishes certain habits to which everyone must then conform; the aggregate of these common habits is what is called the class spirit (esprit de corps) of each profession; thus there is the class spirit of the bar, of the court, etc. The class spirit of the French journalists consists in a violent but frequently an eloquent and lofty manner of discussing the great interests of the state, and the exceptions to this mode of writing are only occasional. The characteristics of the American journalist consist in an open and coarse appeal to the passions of his readers; he abandons principles to assail the characters of individuals, to track them into private life and disclose all their weaknesses and vices.

Nothing can be more deplorable than this abuse of the powers of thought. I shall have occasion to point out hereafter the influence of the newspapers upon the taste and the morality of the American people, but my present subject exclusively concerns the political world. It cannot be denied that the political effects of this extreme license of the press tend indirectly to the maintenance of public order. Individuals who already stand high in the esteem of their fellow citizens are afraid to write in the newspapers, and they are thus deprived of the most powerful instrument that they can use to excite the passions of the multitude to their own advantage.

Tocqueville: Book 1 Chapter 11

I gave you a "thanks" for quoting Alexis deTocqueville. A worthy source his thoughts to ponder. Unfortunately what deTocqueville's talking about here is the newspaper -- obviously radio didn't exist in his day. And that 's a different animal because a newspaper was/is not limited by its own medium. The radio dial is; that was the whole rationale behind the Fairness Doctrine. Any of us can start a newspaper or write in one; but we can't just erect our own radio station or show up at the studio and expect a mic to be turned on for us. Therefore the FD was put there to ensure that this limited medium would reflect its community of license, and not just the guy who owns the transmitter.

And within those days we certainly did have talk radio; it was a format any station could and did try to find an audience, just as they tried classical music or rock 'n' roll or sports. And because of the Fairness Doctrine we had discourse and diversity of opinion. And to paraphrase an earlier poster, I submit that anyone who doesn't support a diversity of opinion, well they may be in the wrong country, since that used to be the principle we're founded upon.

Led Zeppelin

Ha! There you go. I would add that "The Lemon Song" lifts its last verse and title from Robert Johnson's "Traveling Riverside Blues" so it's a hybrid. I believe "In My Time of Dyin'" was first done by Blind Willie Johnson, but not copyrighted. But the recordings match. I give them a pass on "Taurus".

I discovered this while working at a New England station about 22 years ago -- there was a multi-record set from a live blues festival (can't remember the name of it) where if you skipped around to this song on this disc and that song on that one, you could reconstruct virtually the entire Led Zep I album. And I mean word for word and note for note.

Put "Led Zeppelin plagiarism" into a YouTube search bar. Hours of fun and outrage.

Hey Jillian....

You rock.

Yes, that is stifling free speech. What part of "free" don't you understand? "Free" doesn't mean "government controlled." That's what the fairness doctrine is: government control of speech.

By the way -- ever seen a political debate? Ever seen one where one candidate talked and the other had his mic shut off?

OK then.

What's your point? A presidential debate bares no resemblance to free speech either.

Your MessiahRushie has never been right about anything, except to the Misinformed Voter. There is nothing even remotely journalistic about the pathological liar unless you negate anything he says! And that's exactly what you did, in the above quote he undeniably claims to be an old-school journalist, but you, subconsciously knowing he is a pathological liar, negated what he said.
Thank you.

Bring back the Fairness Doctrine- even if it's just 1 minute of argument from the other side. RW radio couldn't take it- They LIE like rugs. see sig pp3. Ond DEM LIE? ONE?

Not a promise blocked by Pubs or Pubspam, dupes. Never seen it done.
