Based upon my experiences of living in the Washington, DC area my entire life, I'd have to say no. In fact, you need to be a felon to get elected in Ward 8 in dc.

Considering that all politicians are criminals, I would say that being a felon is probably a prerequisite for getting into any office, Democrat or Republican.
