Navy's Newest Ship To Be Named The USS Cesar Chavez?

Whats funny is that Hillary will likely receive a Ship named to her while Bill will never see the day

I see it more as a recognition to the increasing number of Hispanics that are willing to serve in our military.

Other than that, who gives a fuck?

No shit. We have like a thousand naval ships and only so many states, Presidents, and military hero's names.

This is obvious proof that the usurper wants to impose communism on this country.

I mean, anyone that tries to organize agricultural workers is nothing but a commie agitator!

Like Ronald Reagan?

Actually, it's quite traditional to name naval ships after Presidents. You may have heard of the USS Abraham Lincoln for instance even though the man never served in the Navy.

PS - Reagan served in the military , different branch, but the tradition remains the same .

Per the OP's quoted article, ships are/were supposed to be named for military heros.

Or the George H. W. Bush?

He actually was a military hero.

Yeah he got shot down. And pulled right home real quick afterwards.

Yeah. What a loser.

George H. W. Bush - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

World War IIFollowing the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, Bush decided to join the US Navy,[1] so after graduating from Phillips Academy earlier in 1942,[4] he became a naval aviator at the age of 18.[3] After completing the 10-month course, he was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve at Corpus Christi, Texas on June 9, 1943, just three days before his 19th birthday, which made him the youngest naval aviator to that date.[1]

He was assigned to Torpedo Squadron (VT-51) as the photographic officer in September 1943.[1] The following year, his squadron was based on the USS San Jacinto as a member of Air Group 51, where his lanky physique earned him the nickname 'Skin'.[5] During this time, the task force was victorious in one of the largest air battles of World War II: the Battle of the Philippine Sea.[1]

After Bush's promotion to Lieutenant (junior grade) on August 1, the San Jacinto commenced operations against the Japanese in the Bonin Islands. Bush piloted one of four Grumman TBM Avenger aircraft from VT-51 that attacked the Japanese installations on Chichijima.[6] His crew for the mission, which occurred on September 2, 1944, included Radioman Second Class John Delaney and Lieutenant Junior Grade William White.[1] During their attack, the Avengers encountered intense anti-aircraft fire; Bush's aircraft was hit by flak[7] and his engine caught on fire.[1] Despite his plane being on fire, Bush completed his attack and released bombs over his target, scoring several damaging hits.[1] With his engine afire, Bush flew several miles from the island, where he and one other crew member on the TBM Avenger bailed out of the aircraft;[7] the other man's parachute did not open.[1] It has not been determined which man bailed out with Bush[1] as both Delaney and White were killed as a result of the battle.[7] Bush waited for four hours in an inflated raft, while several fighters circled protectively overhead until he was rescued by the lifeguard submarine USS Finback.[1] For the next month he remained on the Finback, and participated in the rescue of other pilots.

Bush subsequently returned to San Jacinto in November 1944 and participated in operations in the Philippines[1] until his squadron was replaced and sent home to the United States. Through 1944, he flew 58 combat missions[7] for which he received the Distinguished Flying Cross, three Air Medals, and the Presidential Unit Citation awarded to San Jacinto.[1]

Thank you, Captain Obvious.

if it's so obvious, why then did you bring naming a ship after Reagan into question?

Clinton, that would have been a more appropriate example of a POTUS who has a ship named after him but never served.

BTW - He deserves one to, as I said it is traditional to name ships after Presidents. Obama will get one one day to, and rightfully so.

I'm sorry you got confused in the process. I will be more clear next time. Its obvious that liberals know little to nothing about military anything. List of U.S. military vessels named after Presidents - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chavez was a united states citizen who did what he could for other citizens treated like worthless beings. The living conditions were horrendous and the farmers who hired the poor illegals and legals knew there wasn't a damn thing they could about it..any more than the legals could to help them. Stuck between a rock and hard place. Chavez decided to take a long walk along with many members of his PEACEFUL organization and as they gathered on Cecil Ave to begin that historic walk, his daughter Eloise and I both stood side by side at the classroom window to watch and wave.
He deserves that honor of the ship named after him in that aspect of a pioneer...but I still think all ships should be named after war heroes. Chavez was not impressed with his own service since he was seen only good enough to be a deck hand.
He was a very nice man and did indeed follow the same beliefs as ghandi.

Wrong. We've also had vessels named after planets. USS SATURN and USS MARS, which have since had their designation changed from USS to USNS.

Both ships were on the Navy's fleet roster back in '83.

Additionally, my first ship was called the USS CONCORD, it was named for a battle.
