Native Americans like most tribal civilizations were the victims of clashing cultures. Their culture was incompatible with the invading European culture, and they lost out
The stronger culture won and the weaker culture was brushed aside
Such is the history of mankind
They should have been assimilated into American society not ostracized from it. Instead of creating reservations and isolating them into islands of despair and poverty they should have been taught skills so they could earn a living. The world has changed and society and people have to change to live it. If they do not evolve they die off.

Victims my ass.
Fact is numbnuts, they get more government aid than any other group in these United States and they have the highest poverty rate and the lowest life expectancy. 13 billion is spent on Native Americans each year, there are 20 different departments and agencies specifically for Native Americans yet no group in America does worse.
Empowering Tribal Nations Initiative, Advancing Nation to Nation Relationships, Protecting Indian Country, Improving Trust Land Management, New Energy Frontier Initiative, Climate Change Adaptation Initiative, Construction, Improving Trust Management, Tribal Priority Allocations, Resolving Land and Water Claims, Indian Land Consolidation Program. This is just a partial list.
Indians would be better off without government handouts. there is evidence that: tribes not recognized by the federal government, tribes that get no special help, often do better.
Members of the Lumbee tribe from Robeson County, NC, own their own homes. They succeed in business. Lumbee tribe members include real estate developer Jim Thomas, who used to own the Sacramento Kings. Lumbee Jack Lowery helped start the Cracker Barrel Restaurants. Lumbees started the first Indian owned bank, which now has 12 branches.

Maybe victims from the standpoint of they lost most of their valuable land and had millions of their population erradicated.
But at least they have their casinos

The one really big hope for this country is that when it has done something wrong, there are a good many people that will admit the fault..and try to correct this.
And then there are conservatives.
Native Americans are living proof that government intervention does more harm than good.
No, they're simply living proof of what happens when the Conquered refuse to assimilate to the culture of their Conquerors and what should happen to every ethnic group in this country that refuses to divest itself of its former culture and become AMERICANS.
So the question is, why should our tax dollars support them?

Our tax dollars shouldn't be going to any individual or ethnic group. Nor should they be going to any private business. That is NOT the way this government was intended to run.
I've been on a few reservations and know a few members of various upper midwest tribes. Their culture has been nearly destroyed by the US Government at almost every turn. Those who leave the reservations often do well.
Even the tribes with Casinos have significant problems when they split the profits of the casino between tribe members, and make some wealthy enough to be nothing more than trust fund brats. I have heard many a story of Indian men drinking themselves into oblivion because they got a large monthly stipend from the casinos as a tribe member and never had to work. I've seen those reservations who didn't have a casino as well, and it is like a third world country at times, eking out a living and getting a check from the gubmint and living in squalor.
Government, be it their own, or the US has a terrible price on their culture. It pains me to see both the abuse from and for government from both sides of the coin.

The main problem with the Casinoes..it that it is seldom Indians that "really" own them.
That's right. The Tribal corporations own them. The members of the tribe are the shareholders. It's about as close to a successful communist enterprise as you can get in many ways. Well, more like a massive family owned business.I've been on a few reservations and know a few members of various upper midwest tribes. That's bullshit!
They seldom recognize ownership of land, so the term "they lost their land" is misleading.Native Americans like most tribal civilizations were the victims of clashing cultures. Their culture was incompatible with the invading European culture, and they lost out
