NASA.. The Ultimate Outsourcing

They should be happy because i am sure private industry will never lay off people for a profit. Their jobs will be much more secure with all those chinese people good at math working for pennies. Hey, maybe Bain capital can take over a space travel company and give them all jobs since we know what great job creators they are.

Oh what did i do today to deserve this joy?

Well, Do you think they can do worse than Obama? And to think.. We haven't even started with all the jobs he cost in the oil industry.

Oil production in the US is increasing. Notice how we need more pipelines? More refineries, and plants are expanding. The US is now an oil exporter and always has been.
There are ads in the paper for oilies alot. Even in fayettevill, Arkansas, Fracking is the boom goiong on in the US for oil and natural gas. The price of natural gas has bottomed out from so much on the market.

I'll save oil for it's own thread tomorrow. We'll investigate what happened in the gulf. It'll be fun.

I think the government should control the space program when it comes to defense, science, etc. Maybe giving a hand to private in area's like mining asteroids, moons...

I think Private corporations have a place too, mining, hotels, etc. The(non-science) civiliation portion. Of course building parts for the science space stations and defense structures.

Commie! you want government controlled space exploration to go along with your want for government owned industry and business. you are afraid of private enterprise which could easily bring back needed resources and make some nice jobs out of space exploration. it is sad to see socialists like yourself run in fear of private enterprise.

Wow, this is fucking sweet.

No, I want you idiots to be honest with yourselves... You cannot ideologically attack capitalism, then dishonestly give a pass to certain capitalists (in specific areas of interest to you) such as green energy, and Space exploitation without being the absolute hypocrite numbskulls we already know that you are. You are just completely delusional to think there would be a difference between a private company that takes resources from outer Space, and a private company like Bain Capital, who you detest so well.

Well you know that they don't really care about Bain when it comes to lost jobs. Their only interest in Bain is to try to use it as a club to beat Romney with because Obama can't run on his record. Look how hysterical they get when it's pointed out that Obama has done the very things they claim to despise Romney for.

you the only one trying to make a scene.
If you think that acting like your political enemies makes you look better, you are wrong. You just made youself into the thing you don't like about other people the most.

Oh No let's discuss the the loss of 9 billion in cash in Iraq during the Bush administration.

The way that Romney treated employees badly does relect on the kind of person he is. Obama has not laid off anyone for personal gain. Nor did Obama fire them and offer them a job at a lower rate with no benefits. Nor did he raid their pensions for personal gain.

Now, here's some real Obama outsourcing.

This morning, Kazakhstan time, the next mission to the International Space Station successfully blasted off carrying the usual trio -- a Russian commander, an astronaut from the international community and an American in a seat rented by NASA since the retirement of the last U.S. space shuttle a year ago this month.

guess you never heard of the deep space rocket they are devolping now, it's called Orion.

If Obama doesn't kill that off too.

Would you have preferred the 30+ year old shuttle fleet continue to operate past their useful and safe life? We lost 2. I would prefer not to lose a 3rd.

Make up your mind, one day it's the govt. does not make jobs, to Obama is now laying off engineers and scienctists and is a bad man.
the only nerve you hit was showing us you are uneducated ideas about the space program, and do not relize that the objectives have changed. The shuttle did it's job of building the international space station and using it to launch missions to explore deep space now.

Well, of course it's changed. Vel should've realized that. It's all about MUSLIM OUTREACH now. :eusa_whistle::eusa_whistle::eusa_whistle: :cuckoo:

NASA would be self sustaining if they were allowed to keep the proceeds from the patents they hold, instead it gets dumped in the general fund and they are a favorite target for budget cuts. The government has refused to fund NASA adequately to operate an expensive, increasingly elderly shuttle fleet or to fast rack the development of a replacement so here we are with an agency that still works wonders with a shoestring budget. Another consideration is the fact that NASA was always a positive propaganda organization while space no longer inspires the general populace. If manned space travel has the potential to be a profitable venture now is the time to develop it or find something better to do.

No, I would have preferred that we use the money we spent paying off Obama's campaign supporters to our own space program. Instead, he gave taxpayer dollars to his friends and caused somewhere in the neighborhood of 7500 layoffs in the space industry. So when Obama stands there screeching about Bain destroying jobs, people need to remember all of the jobs that Obama has destroyed or caused to be destroyed by bad policies.

where? There was nothing ready to replace the shuttle. It HAD to be retired, and the retirement was started under Bush anyway.

The most logical thing was to retire the shuttle as planned, hitch a ride with the Russians until the private sector could take over for the shuttle. That is exactly what is happening.

As for the rest of your comments, I agree with you there.

There was a plan. The Constellation program, which was already underway and which Obama axed, despite the fact that we'd already made considerable investment in it.

The Orion crew capsule, which was the main part of Constellation, is still being developed. The Constellation program as a whole would not have been ready to replace the shuttles for another 10 years. Were we supposed to sit on our hands until then?

The course we are following now is the most logical, and COST EFFECTIVE path. Unless you feel that the federal government is more capable than private industry, and more cost effective.

Did you realize that while he was campaigning for POTUS Obama promised that he would continue with the Constellation project, which was to replace the space shuttle. Another broken promise that resulted in lost jobs.

60 Minutes highlights Obama's broken promise on space program, jobs. Paging Bill Nelson...

When then-presidential candidate Barack Obama came to the heart of the nation's space program, Brevard County, he promised that he'd protect space-industry jobs in the face of NASA budget cuts under President Bush. Obama namechecked one-time astronaut and current Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson as an ally in Congress to ensure it all got done.

Take a look around today, and you'll see the results didn't match Obama's rhetoric.

"Fifty years of liftoffs are becoming eight months of layoffs. Have a look around Brevard County. It's shrinking. Lots of people are moving away, taking businesses down with them," 60 Minutes' Scott Pelley intoned last night in a segment called "Hard Landing."

"The 7,000 layoffs at the space center triggered 7,000 more in the community. Unemployment has been close to 11 percent."

Sorry, some things are worth the price. Had Obama not wasted billions giving his friends companies loans that they promptly bankrupted on, then it might not have been necessary to layoff all the NASA workers. Do you not think that if the engineers at NASA were able to figure out how to get to the moon that perhaps they might have been able to turn their talents to the green energy that Obama wants so badly. Instead, 80% of the green energy money went to foreign companies.

The problem is that most Conservatives for the past 5 years or so have nothing but complaints about the expenses required to do 'boring experiments' in space.

It's been placed on the back-burner.
