Im watching Mudbound right now on netflix. It is a bit depressing and saddening, how blacks were treated back then in the rural south. Good that those times are gone.

Mudbound is a 2017 American historical drama film directed by Dee Rees. It was written by Rees and Virgil Williams, who based their screenplay on the 2008 novel Mudbound by Hillary Jordan. It stars Carey Mulligan, Garrett Hedlund, Jason Clarke, Jason Mitchell, Jonathan Banks, Rob Morgan and Mary J. Blige.[5] The film depicts two World War II veterans – one white, one black – who return to rural Mississippi each to address racism and PTSD in his own way. The film premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival on January 21, 2017,[6] and was released on Netflix and in limited release on November 17, 2017.

No way it's not a lot of hyped up drama, right? lol

I think back then it was really like that. The black war veteran fathered a son with a german woman, the rednecks found the picture of his son and wife in germany, and the KKK tortured him, and wanted to kill him but then decided to cut off his tongue but let him live.

Interesting that in Germany he could have a white wife but not in Mississipi. The last 30 minutes were the best part, at the end he is in Germany again united with his son and wife.

It's a fictional movie, based on a novel.

Ever wonder why all those millions of blacks stayed in the South after the Civil War, Mortimer? Or why gypsies stay in Europe?

As far as I know the blacks were brought to America as slaves, they didnt even came by their own will and they are since the colonies there. Why should they go home? Many whites are new comers in the early 20th century or 19th century, the blacks are longer in the USA. And the Gypsies are since 1.500 years in Europe. Why should they leave? They dont leave because it is their home. As far as Gypsies probably remember they just have always been there. But actually Gypsies live all over the world. There are Gypsies in Asia, in the Middle East, in Australia or Americas (Brasil, USA, Canada etc.). So it is not true they are only in Europe.

The interesting thing here is "despite Hitler and everything" it was possible in Germany but not in America?

In the 1980s - parts of Germany still didn't allow blacks in some restaurants and bars.
100% that way in Bamberg where America has a military base.
They were very much not fans of black American soldiers.
