I've never been there, but home town is the Tremendous city of Krakow.

The prices, even in such a supersized city seem reasonable.

Is Poland a chill place for someone who was raised in the tremendous city of Youngstown, USA?

I hear the Polish chicks are gorgeous and like Americans.

By the way, there is a Youtube guy who does a whole series of videos about what it is like for American living in Poland.

It is a sad day when a previous Communist country is a better option for Liberty than the US, thanks to the Democrats stealing our Republic.

Lots of Poles, that lived in the UK, have moved back...but they are Polish. You would want to know the language for sure.

Your links show apartment prices for apartments in tourist areas and are kind of high.

I sort of realized that. But the prices of those listed are still mostly under the equivalent of $1000 a month

Youngstown, Ohio? Haven't been through there is years but tremendous wasn't the word being used to describe it at the time.

Krakow is nice but there are very different types of architecture at play. The old historic center remains authentic and well-preserved but just outside the center the buildings have very little charm. The old historic city center has also changed where by night every tourist is accosted by offers of strip clubs or other adult entertainment.

The people are not always quick to welcome you with warmth but when friendship is offered it is sincere.

Language isn't a problem because Poles are good students and Krakow was until Covid catering to huge hordes of rowdy Brits who came for the inexpensive beer and the fact that planes tickets could be found for on average $100 USD roundtrip between several UK cities and Krakow.

Job wise there are a few areas in Poland where opportunities exist or alternatively if you get a resident permit it can be a low cost destination for retirement depending on what you feel is acceptable.

.

While my ancestry is Polish, the family has been here for so many generations, I know nothing of the culture or language of even the favorite foods.

100% American with an impossible to pronounce last name. I wouldn't fit in there.

For a good size city and low cost a place like Krakow is a good choice. If you like a beach town Croatia is a good low cost option.

You can find really nice apartments in nice neighborhoods for half the money. Public transportation is widespread. You can get anywhere for cheap and fast. If you do not speak Polish you will learn places where English speakers are readily available. Young people are usually happy to practise their English and can be very helpful.
Do yourself a favor. Rent an apartment for a week or two and make a visit.

Croatia has some really nice islands but the coast is limited to just a few nice areas like Dubrovnik. Cities like Split are shabby as are many of the other coastal cities.

Poland doesn't want leftists having survived socialism (communism has never been practiced except at a tribal level - the USSR was socialist). You bred those lefties, you can keep them.

Poland has not yet perished,
So long as we still live.
What the foreign force has taken from us,
We shall with sabre retrieve.
