In spite of the fact that repubs said it would increase the chance of a Democrat being elected.

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — The Republican-led Montana Senate passed a bill Friday to allow counties to conduct this year's expected election for U.S. House by mail, despite objections by the state GOP chairman that it would give the Democratic candidate the advantage.

The Senate voted 37-13 for the measure, which now goes to the state House for consideration by its members.

The election will be held to choose a replacement for U.S. Rep. Ryan Zinke, R-Montana, tapped as secretary of the U.S. Department of Interior by President Donald Trump. Zinke must be confirmed before Gov. Steve Bullock can call for a special election, which will then be held within 100 days.

Good for Montana!

The more voters, the easier the access, the better the results.

Sure! There is no way that there could possibly be any fraud with a system using the US Postal Service. No way on God's green earth could that happen.

Thank you! I've been following this story ever since Rachel Maddow discussed it. Good news! Montana was in a fiscal crunch since their sole Representative is going into the Trump Administration and they have to have another election - that they don't have money for.

Makes sense, considering that Montana is the least populated State in the Nation, or close to it and people are spread out, that they could easily manage a mail in vote without fraud, and this would save them money they were not expected to spend in their budget.

Just think of all the Democrat social workers that will be going to the nursing homes to help all the old folks to mail in their ballots.

The Montana senate didn't "pass" a bill. They submitted a bill which would have to be ratified by the state house and signed by the governor.

I knew a girl who used to live there. Even driving to the closest store to her was like 50 miles. Using the mail would save the people a lot of time and gas money. Plus I doubt there are very many illegals in Montana....it's too freaking cold. .....

Bad idea. Just increases chances of fraud. Easy to open the ballots and change them.

the Senate's vote is veto proof'....if the house is as well, then the Governor can not veto it.

There is still no guarantee on a Democratic winner, even if there are more registered Democratic voters... registered democrats don't always vote Democratic...Trump would not be President, if they did...

There are liberals everywhere.

I just got back from a secure facility in NYC where fingerprints and a driver's license were required. Same thing should be done for voting. If someone has no driver's license, they are either mentally handicapped or criminals and unfit to vote in an election that affects normal people..

Anywhere. How many voters in the State have died since Nov? Are they going to purge the rolls before they mail the ballots?

lol.....who is going to change them?.....

The repubs said mail-in ballots would encourage more people to vote. That's why they make voting as difficult as possible.

You do realize that the signature on a returned ballot has to match the signature of the registered voter, right?
