Michelle Claims Fat Kids Are A National Security Threat

The Military has already beaten her to it. The poor physical condition of potential recruits has been an issue for years.

Parents are the ones feeding their kids the junk that is making them obese. They should prepare home made meals as the norm, eating out as the exception. And they should yank the cell phones and the xbox's and the tvs and the computers from their kid's room and push 'em outside to play. Amazing results will follow.

After sitting around the house for hours on end in the summer kids get fat. Many parents won't allow them out on their own. School buses have to drop kids off mere feet from their doorstep. It's all just a side-effect of the Nanny State this country has immersed itself in
Thanks for making this point; it is the main reason why half the kids i see are obese. If the government and/or Michelle want to see a change then they should do something more than just changing the lunches in schools.

So you're saying the government should get more involved in people's life to help them change their behaviors of unhealthy choices?

Poor Republicans..

Michelle Obama called my kid FAT !

Yeah, that would be nice, wouldn't it.

Why do you think there is a fast food restaurant on every corner in America anyway?

Michelle is losing her mind.

Now she's saying that because only 1 in 4 kids in the US can qualify for the military this has become a threat to National Security.

“Military leaders … tell us that when more than one in four young people are unqualified for military service because of their weight,” the first lady says in the prepared remarks, “childhood obesity isn’t just a public health threat, it’s not just an economic threat, it’s a national security threat as well."

Now I've heard everything.

Call it one of those unintended consequences of the Nanny State.

Kids aren't allowed to run around and play like they did when I was growing up so now we've got kids that are getting by on Monster drinks just to keep from being bored to death.

After sitting around the house for hours on end in the summer kids get fat. Many parents won't allow them out on their own. School buses have to drop kids off mere feet from their doorstep. It's all just a side-effect of the Nanny State this country has immersed itself in.

I've felt for quite some time that all of this coddling that goes on is only going to make kids unable to cope with life but military life is out of the question folks. Our pampered kids won't be able to handle the culture-shock they will experience. It doesn't matter if they're out of shape or not.

Keep all Republican kids fat until obie wan know nothing ends the wars. He promised.

Help me out here mud. Your quote said:

She is quoting what military leaders said. Now, you're holding Mrs. Obama accountable for making sure every child in America exercises and eats right, and not thier PARENTS, or themselves?

To me she's saying if things don't change, a lot of these unhealthy, overweight children wouldn't qualify for the military when they are old enough to join.

Teaching kids, and their parents, how to make healthy choices in eating and exercise seems like a great idea to me.

I see nothing out of Michelle that's gonna improve the situation. She dances around the issue never actually facing it....because our society is mostly to blame for it and she's not going to change that.

I'm not gonna call her a liar but I'm sure military leaders like to go to Michelle to voice their concerns. But what can or will she do about it? Her husband controls the media. Tell them to stop scaring the shit out of parents 24/7. That would be a great start.

It's not the governments job to teach kids or parents anything.

That's the problem with you liberal idiots, you think the government is responsible for every aspect of your miserable lives.

I love it when you cons can't argue a point without insults. Can't you address a topic without an insult, or is that too hard for you to do?

Anyway............

So, it's not the government's job to teach parents or kids anything? We better close down all the public schools then too while we're at it, and everyone can homeschool their children!

The best way out of poverty is education, did you know that?

Anyway, do you think if you just ignore the problems with today's youth they will go away?

If you weren't such an idiot you would realize that I wasn't arguing a point, I was making a statement of fact. It is not the role of the government to teach anyone anything and liberls do believe the government is the answer to everything.

The discussion wasn't about poverty it was about childhood obesity.

Because, Echo, she used the innocuous term "military leaders tell me" What military leaders? Bring them forth, let them speak. The military is voluntary service.

Childhood obesity is a real problem.

But the solution is not more of the misguided government programs that have contributed to the problem.

Parents could try saying 'no'. Mine did. Didn't kill me. We had 'junk food' every other weekend... if we had been reasonably well behaved. And... she taught every one of us to cook. So, even my hot brother can whip you up a decent dinner! He's a keeper. LOL.

Again, you're low class tactics just proves my point.

If you expect to have a debate with people, try and keep the insults away, and maybe you'll get some respect. As it is, you just look like another troll.

PS-Poverty ad Obesity go together in many cases.

In the 60s Germany had a weight problem like we do.

Then they started Volksmarching.

It also helps that stores close in Germany by 7pm and 2pm on Saturday. Instead of running to a minitmart to grab a soda Germans walk in the evenings. Saturdays they go for a stroll. Sunday they do it again. Their food is much more nutritious then ours is. Their beer and liquor is more healthy. Their wine is good for you. We always put so much junk in our food and drinks. Germany doesn't. Do you think Michelle could focus on something like that or is she just gonna pay lip-service like usual?

$$$$$$$$

My town went commercial craaaazy about 8 years ago. A pizza place and a sandwich place or two was all we had. Now? Sonic, McDonald's, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Cinnabon (I think they went belly up), Calfornia Tortilla, Philly Cheesesteak, Dunkin Donuts, etc. Hmmm, lots of pharmacies too.

I do not know how people eat this type of food on any type of regular basis. I cook nearly every night. We get a pizza or cheese steaks or hoagies maybe once every six weeks or so.

I don't think it's a 'just food' or a 'just lack of exercise' problem going on in this country. It's both. We live in a land of plenty with too much at our fingertips, too much convenience.

Frankly, I'd be thankful if she'd shut her piehole. McDonalds is bad for you, we all know it.

But don't tell me I can't eat it; and when I want my nasty Royale w/cheese, I want a nasty Royale w/cheese!

Yeah, that's the whole point.

Who makes that choice to get their kids the 'Happy Meal' or whatnot instead of making a home cooked meal? Since the kids aren't driving or paying, I'd say it's mom or dad.

As a treat once every blue moon, sure, but as a lifestyle, HECK NO!
