Poland and Hungary are still emerging from decades of being under the thumb of Moscau and are struggling to accommodate some western values which are new to them. They have little to fall back on from pre-WWII days. It is of concern that autocratic nationalism, long suppressed by the Soviets, is reemerging in those countries but as long as they remain in the European Union they have a good chance of embracing human rights and democratic values which respect the rights of minorities. They warrant watching.

There is a sentiment among some working class in Saxony that being economically and socially oppressed for decades under the DDR regime, they should be sharing in the prosperity of the former West Germany before aid is offered to asylum seekers. In this they are mistaken and are failing to appreciate that they themselves were like refugees from communism when the Bundesrepublik accepted the en masse at great expense to West Germans at the time of unification.

Soviet Poland was actually more Nationalist than modern EU Capitalist Poland.

I don't think so, the English have had the largest pro-refugee marches in the whole of Europe, and a rather recent Pew poll confirmed that out of the countries listed anti-Islamic sentiments were lowest in the UK, even Sweden, Germany, and France held slightly higher anti-Islamic attitudes than Britain.

What I do agree with though, is that English xenophobes are more violent than other xenophobes, and also more anti-European than other xenophobes.
