So is yours.Memorial Day for me marks the beginning of the summer season.
I normally go hiking, mountain biking, or camping.
But we got so much snow this year (which is a good thing) that all the high trails and camps are still 50% snowed-in at each of them.
So this year this past weekend all I did was drive up into the nearest mountain pass and check everything out with my bino's.
I'll wait until July 4th to start hiking this year.
My own memorial day for my dad is on his birthday in August.
Then by Veterans Day I am finished camping and hunting big game.
This year this past weekend all the usual things happened -- the wreaths -- the speeches.
GHW Bush was the last POTUS with any real combat experience. His speeches were meaningful.
Ford served in the Navy onboard ship during WW2 in the Pacific.
JFK was a Navy hero who saved his whole crew swimming them to safety after their PT boat was rammed and splintered.
Immediately before him Ike was the hero of WW2 and a WW1 fighter.
And Truman was an arty officer in WW1.
Back in those days their speeches on Memorial Day were meaningful.
Trump dodged the draft with bad feet supposedly.
BHO was not born yet and did not serve in the military.
GW dodged the Viet Nam War draft with Texas Air National Guard duty.
Clinton dodged the draft by resigning is ROTC commission.
Reagan was a film maker in WW2.
Carter served in the submarine fleet during peacetime and never saw battle.
Nixon was stateside in the USN reserves during WW2.
LBJ was a newspaper reporter in WW2.
Their speeches were meaningless and hollow.
