Most of the city destroyed. The last defenders were in a steel factory. All the Russians had to do was surround it and cut off supplies. In time the defenders ran out of food and water. Wise strategy by the Russians they forced a surrender without having to attack the building.

Oh they attacked it, just not with soldiers storming it. It wasted a lot of time and ammo to get them to capitulate/die. Now with all of this time wasted, now what, eh? Try for Kiev again?

I love how you say "wise strategy". If they were so wise, they'd be popping champagne corks in the streets of Kiev months ago.
if I were in charge it is what i would do. Why risk the lives of your soldiers by ordering them to invade the building when you do not have to? it was wise strategy.

If Russia want to control the Black Sea coast they will have to take Odessa and that will be difficult. The defenders there have had much time to build up defenses.

Russians may have Mariupol but it has been devastated. How much time and money will it take to rebuild the city?

Cities can always be rebuilt. Look at Stalingrad. The problem is, the Russians have wasted so much time, energy and material for one city. They have to capture a shitload more, and they will take time, energy and material.

The Russians were very stupid. If they wanted to control in Ukraine in three days (like it was supposed to go), they needed to send in the armored units first as a spearhead. Blast through the enemy lines in a race towards the west. Personnel trucks would follow through the holes punched in the defensive lines, and from there they could set up a corridor to bring in more men and material. As holes are punched in the lines, the Russians could envelope the Ukrainians from the rear and force them into pockets. Then they could choke these pockets further and further until they are destroyed. By this time, the tanks are at the borders of Poland, and the Ukrainians, surprised at the swiftness of the attack, would have no choice but to split their forces to deal with the Russians from the flanks, the rear and the front. If Belarus wanted to join in, they could sweep in from the North, cutting off any supply lines from Poland, and swinging east to link up with any Russian army units. Then a victory would be imminent.

What actually happened was an archaic frontal assault that so far isn't going great for the Ivan.

The Russian army is using a tactic they perfected during WWll.
Surround a city so that food, water, and ammo, can't reach the defenders.
Then relentlessly pound the city day and night with artillery until the enemy is starving, out of ammo, and has no choice but to surrender.

Exactly when did Putin or any Russian general state the illegal invasion of a sovereign nation into Ukraine would only take 3 days? .... :dunno:

That was the analysis of nearly all of the worlds military analysts. Apparently Russia failed everyone's expectations. They aren't going for a slow and methodic invasion either, they're just stalled from poor leadership, which historically, has always been a problem the Russians have had.

Why didn't they do that with Kiev? Why is Odessa still standing? You mean to tell me that it took them three months just to destroy one city? At this rate, they'll take Ukraine in 2026.

You obviously don't have a clue about Putin's strategy and Russian army tactics concerning the special military operation in Ukraine.

Putin has been very methodical in his planning and execution in his humanitarian foray into Ukraine.
He had the Russian military first attack the outskirts of Kyiv.
This served two purposes.
#1 Give Zelensky a few days to figure out he couldn't win the war and meet Putin's demands for a withdrawal.
#2. A fain to draw Ukrainian forces from the Donbas region in an effort to protect Kyiv, thereby making the Russia army thrust into the Donbas easier.

Putin has no intention of reducing Kyiv into rubble like he's done to Mariupol and other cities.
Kyiv has great historical and religious significance to the Russian people who do not want to see it destroyed.
Thus, Putin has backed off further attacks on Kyiv unless he's left with no other option.

The port city of Odessa will be next once the Donbas region is securely in Russian control. The the Russian army will keep heading west from Crimea, in order to annex the entire north coast of the Black Sea and the long thin sliver of land between Moldova and Ukraine called Transnistria.

Your first reason was pointless, because three months in, and no signs of surrender are anywhere to be found. Ukrainians are vowing to fight to the death.

Your second reason would make sense, except the Donbass was one of their entry points, and they didn't get far at all. They still aren't. They're bogged down, fighting and fighting, but not making much headway.

Doesn't sound like smart planning at all. A Blitzkreig tactic would have been much wiser, and a link up with Belarusian forces coming down from the North would have made it easier to take the built up Ukrainian defenses from the rear.

Dislike my posts as much as you want, the fact is that the planning is severely lacking, no matter how much the Russians or yourself try to convince the world otherwise.

Well done you, we applaud your ability to read the future.

What next? I knew he was going to be one year older within the next two years....

Lol ..... hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers just laid down their weapons and surrendered in Mariupol just a couple of days ago.
It's been all over the news.
Do try to keep up. ...

Can't expect most people on here to actually know what's going on. The news is only "news" when it's convenient for their on narrative. They've got so used to this, they simply ignore anything else.

For the record, the Surrender at Mariupol took place because they had no ammo to shoot, no food to eat, no water to drink. Great, you got Mariupol. This is what three months of bloody combat has gotten you. Try to take the rest without losing 50,000 more casualties.

While you say you care for the Ethnic Russians, Putin does not care for ethnic groups in his own nation.
