Education is merely a passing on of knowledge. Sadly, what's being passed on through mandates is a great example that those passing on the mandated curricula are no more intelligent than the ones mandating it, which is not surprising.
...............

“Students in the U.S. made significant progress in math and reading achievement on NAEP from 1990 until 2015, when the first major dip in achievement scores occurred,” reported U.S. News and World Report. Perhaps not coincidentally, 2015 is the year states were required by the Obama administration to have fully phased in Common Core.

Common Core is a set of national instruction and testing mandates implemented starting in 2010 without approval from nearly any legislative bodies and over waves of bipartisan citizen protests. President Obama, his Education Secretary Arne Duncan, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Bill Gates, and myriad other self-described education reformers promised Common Core would do exactly the opposite of what has happened: improve U.S. student achievement. As Common Core was moving into schools, 69 percent of school principals said they also thought it would improve student achievement. All of these “experts” were wrong, wrong, wrong.

I think what happened is that the Leftists in Academe hijacked the standards and the core curriculum. They knew that if meaningful learning were required, the dropout and failure rate in the "minority community" would skyrocket, thus giving them (the Leftists) a collective case of apoplexy.

So the Common Core became a mist-mash of socialist nonsense and foolishness, the mastery of which is worthless, academically speaking.

But what do I know? The only time I've ever been in a Public School classroom was to take one semester of woodshop in 1962, and that don't make me an expert. But we DID say the Lord's Prayer to start each class day. Believe it or not.

The "rightist" have had control of the mandated education system and it proved no better- (No Child Left Behind and prior "programs")
It's absurd to think a centrally controlled education system mandated by people who don't have enough sense to come in out of the rain without a script could best determine what a sound education is. 2+2= 4 or someone is lying. It is that simple.
Simple does not spell easy- nothing worth having is ever easy. Easy = instant gratification = buyers remorse and immediate dissatisfaction with next greatest whatever (in this case education),
