Man shot 'twice' on doorstep as children played in busy street

A man was reportedly shot twice at point blank range this evening in a sickening attack on a doorstep near to where children were playing.

Youngsters were out on Cambridge Road, in Bootle, when residents say three shots were fired at around 5.45pm.

The victim, a 25-year-old man, was shot in the leg by a gunman with a handgun and rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The attacker, who is described as a white male wearing a blue or grey North Face jacket, ran from the scene in the direction of Sydney Road.

Armed police were called out to the incident just before 6pm and a pool of blood could be seen outside one property.
