Majority of Americans favor wealth tax on very rich: Reuters/Ipsos poll

So, how do we convince the people who are now hooked on voting themselves freebies

The typical "Karl Rove voter" is just as eager to get a handout as the Democrat voter who refuses to work.

How do we convince people who never think, never question, and don't have any intelligence????

I don't know....

I think we need a "climate change" type effort...Look, progs have convinced lots of people in the agenda paid for science of climate change, so we need to do that with our budget concerns.

Idiots in government have already borrowed and spent several future generation's money. This spending spree WILL come to an end one way or another. Trump is pursuing the only hope we have left, aggressive economic growth. We are in a debt hole so large now we can't tax or spending cut our way out.

What is un-American is holding out on debts.
The 'majority of people' think that citizens should contribute to society in proportion to how much they benefit from it.
For instance, how much tax would you put on the difference in value between rich sons who stay home and poor sons that go die to defend rich sons?
Of course, that is merely one example.

Unless there is a draft, your point is moot. Nobody is forced to go to war in today's day in age in the United States. Joining the military is optional, and some rich sons (and DAUGHTERS) do join the military too.

Now you are stereotyping to make it sound as if EVERY rich person gets to stay home, while EVERY poor person has to fight our wars.
Not at all.

Taxation is supposed to be equal. IOW, unless someone is gaining more of something by being taxed, then they should not have to pay more percentage of their income in taxes. Rich people get nothing more than a poor person does if they pay more percentage of their income to taxes. They get the same roads and all the same benefits as anyone else. It is discriminatory to expect them to pay for our politicians' escapades.

Really, please quote where I said that, or quit lying for a quippy rhetorical slap....It's stupid.

I have mentoined the debt in like 5 post in a row and you never once agreed it was a problem, why is that if you view it as such?

That's a cop out....I've asked you several times now what you would raise taxes to, and you try each time to divert, or change the goal post, like here to spending....So, let's try and give a cogent answer instead of bumper sticker plattitudes shall we?

What spending would you cut?

If I were king for a day I would raise everyone's taxes enough to cover every bit of planned spending along with 10% extra to pay down the debt. I would make everyone feel the pain so they know what all the spending we have really cost. Then see if people cry out for a cut in spending or not.

As for spending, I would start with 15% across the board in every department in the government, 3% per year for 5 years. Then after that I would make more targeted spending cuts.

I agree, so what would you cut?

.

You say you agree, but who was the last person you voted for that actually cut spending?

WASHINGTON/NEW YORK (Reuters) - The idea of imposing a wealth tax on the richest Americans has elicited sharply divergent views across a spectrum of politicians, with President Donald Trump branding it socialist and progressive Democratic presidential contenders Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders prominently endorsing it.

Among the 4,441 respondents to the poll, 64% strongly or somewhat agreed that “the very rich should contribute an extra share of their total wealth each year to support public programs” - the essence of a wealth tax. Results were similar across gender, race and household income. While support among Democrats was stronger, at 77%, a majority of Republicans, 53%, also agreed with the idea.

If this is true, then the experiment called the United States of America as we know it is done....

The United States as we know it is done, because of the will of the majority of the United States?

Interesting concept.

Well, that's right....America was never a pure democracy....And when you have a 50+1% that can vote to steal from the other 49.99% then yes, that's a problem.

Which is why the 99% that are being stolen from by the 1%, are demanding the Great Republican Tax Scam be repealed.

Which it's going to be.

how would you balance the budget,

CUT SPENDING

see post #33

I've already answered that

The greatness of the 1990s was that both spending and taxes were cut cut cut... and America prospered because of it.

SPENDING is the problem.

How? Where? How much? All of it? Why don't you come up with your primo budget and present it to Congress . . .

You really think that insults are winning the debate?

Some people are just miserable wretches, is all. :D We should feel sorry for him/her/it.

Why do trucks pay more road tax than bicycles?

so what would you cut?

I'll volunteer.....

Department of Education - cut 90% of the workforce, and block grant aid to states solely for SCHOOL CHOICE VOUCHERS.
We have 16 or so different INTEL agencies who do nothing but lie to us. Cut it back to 1, and audit all at the barrel of a gun
We can cut the living daylights out of foreign aid, because Hunter Biden and Paul Pelosi do not need any more kickbacks
Cut all Federally funded climate "studies." At barrel of a gun, put the ACTUAL DATA COLLECTED on line and let others decide. No more taxpayer funded fudge.
Cut every single "diversity counselor" employed anywhere
Cut Planned Parenthood - because it should be privately funded, and I'm one who would donate if it was cut off
Cut Homeland Security in half. Stop all snooping on private American citizens
Pull all of our troops out of the Middle East, except for Saudi, because we should take out the Saudi Royal family and get our 911 money back from taxing their oil for a while
Legalize weed and tax it, and let everyone out of Federal prison for non-violent weed offense

and then there is health care.... where we should essentially "start over" and cut out everything except Medicare for now. Re-open the free market, stiff government and private insurers, and let those who live unhealthy lifestyles pay for their care....

Essentially, I'd be happy with cutting the Federal government back to the size it was in 1996, when we had a budget surplus....

There is post #33 posted again for SUB HUMANS who refused to read it the first time it was posted....

Great. What is the consensus definition and criteria for “the very rich”? Is it more asset-based or more annual income-based?

It's critical to understand the way the question was posed; "Do you favor the rich paying less or no taxes?" - a no then is put out as favoring a wealth tax.

Our taxation system should NOT be used for democrats' social justice schemes. That is not what it is all about, and that is not what America is all about.

Wrong. That is exactly what taxes are for, and exactly what America is about.

What our taxes are not for is subsidies to oil companies, and defense contractors.

That is not what our taxes are for, or what America is about.

And just so you know, the general welfare of the people is not a scheme. Taking away the general welfare of the people to enrich a few is a scheme.
