Could someone explain the difference? I am quite sure Venezuela, a country that has far more in common with the US than those mini white countries like Denmark and Sweden.

I guess this is a new and improved socialism like new and improved Crest tooth paste of which I could n of never discern much newness or improvement, So why will it be differnet?

There is no difference. Power and control is the goal! Always has been always will be. Without the power to control the general populace Socialism doesn't exist. That's why the slow take over of Govt and its institutions by the left is the most important goal, if it takes violence and civil discord and racial division its all part of the master plan. Don't buy in Vote for freedom. Freedom and Socialism do not Mix. Never have never will!

Venezuela's problem was corruption far more than any socialism.

I was wondering how long it would take for some idiot to start the daily Venezuela thread.

Socialism provides the opportunity for the corruption. When that much power is that centralized, corruption inevitably ensues.

The primary difference between democratic socialism, and ordinary socialism, is the emphasis on democracy. Many people in the US foolishly equate democracy with freedom - something drilled into most of us in primary school. So the idea is that if socialism is democratic, and can therefore do no wrong, it would avoid the authoritarian extremes of Leninism.

The other key difference is one I think is actually worthwhile. Democratic Socialists favor a government organization that is as decentralized as possible. I think this is a step in the right direction, though I would of course decentralize most decisions down to the level of the individual - no voting required.

Why wouldn't you want to talk about Democratic Socialiism? Should it only be discussed in the abstract??
