If they has any other charge and had any intention of using his testimony against other people, they would have plead him to something else.

You don't plead someone to a crime of deception if you want him to testify against others. At least not before trial.

You sure as heck don't allow him to mention in the allocation that he isn't a traitor, that he didn't collude with the Russians, or steal the election if you want him to turn on fellow conspirators in those crimes.
