There are certain dates in History that are reknowned amongst History buffs. For the USA, it's things like December 7th 1941 (Pearl Harbor), September 11th, 2001, November 22nd, 1963 (Kennedy), July 16th 1969 (Neil Armstrong).. and in world history it's usually years like 1054 with the Great Schism or 1347 with the black plague.

I'm going to list some MAJOR dates in sports history, and I offer you to either add to the list or say things on mine shouldn't be on it. Let's start with a "consideration" phase. I'm going to focus somewhat on people breaking or setting long standing records mixed in, along with including all major sports.

- February 22nd, 1980, The "Miracle on Ice" when the USA hockey team of amateurs defeated the mighty professional Soviet Union squad.
- April 8th, 1974, Hank Aaron hits #715 and passes Babe Ruth for the all time home run record, a record that stood for 39 years.
- September 8th, 1998, Mark McGwire hits his 62nd Home run passing Roger Maris' notorius record of 61 in 61, a record which stood for 37 years.
- March 2nd, 1962, Wilt Chamberlain scores 100 points in a game.
- March 8th, 1971, the "Fight of the century" happened in boxing as the undefeated Joe Frazier defeated the undefeated Muhammad Ali by unanimous decision.
- May 15th, 1941, Joe DiMaggio slaps a hit in his 56th straight game. The closest since is Jimmy Rollins in 2005-06 at 38 consecutive games.
- August 3rd, 1936, Jesse Owens wins the 100 meter dash in front of Adolph Hitler to prove that the Aryan race wasn't so dominant. It was the 1st of four gold metals Owens would earn that olympics.
- April 15th, 1947, Jackie Robinson breaks the color barrier and plays in the MLB for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
- January 14th, 1973, the Miami Dolphins defeat the Washington Redskins in Super bowl VII to go 17-0 for the season, the only perfect season in NFL History.
- June 14th, 1998, Michael Jordan hits a jumper with 5.2 seconds left to ice game 6 of the NBA finals against the Utah Jazz in the NBA Finals. The game peaked NBA viewership at 29 million viewers, while in comparison the 2020 NBA Finals averaged 7.5 million.
- April 18th, 1999, Wayne Gretzky plays his final game at age 38 finishing with all-time records in points, goals and assists. What's notable is how far ahead of everyone he is. Gretzky goals 894, 2nd place 801. Gretzky assists 1,963, 2nd place 1249. Gretzky all-time points 2,857, 2nd place 1,921.

I have multiple tennis options, such as Billie Jean King defeating Bobby Riggs (which was probably fixed), Steffi Graf's golden slam, etc.

What do you guys have? I'm curious...

January 23,1984- Hulk Hogan defeats the Iron Sheik by pinfall in New York to win the WWF title and Hulkamania was born.

*January 15th 1967. The Green Bay Packers win the first Superbowl, by defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10.
