Today I read three opinion articles (in the same newspaper!) which reflect the latest Liberal strategy for further undermining free speech in this country. They all parrot the same theme: It is now offensive to refer to Liberal terminology unless you are a Liberal to begin with:

The insulting view of ‘the women’s vote’

In this article, it is insulting to refer to "women's issues" unless unless you have already adopted them as your own!

About that ‘socialist’ label for Bernie Sanders

In this article, it is offensive to refer to Bernie Sanders as a "socialist," even though he has adopted that term for himself!

Leonard Pitts Jr.: Words of moral cowardice

In this article, it is an indication of "moral cowardice" to say that "all lives matter" rather than only "Black lives matter."

All three of these articles attempt to reserve certain language for use by the Liberal intelligentsia while prohibiting its use by the unanointed opposition. Will we wake up to this assault on the First Amendment before it is too late?

Did any of them say you couldn't talk it up there kiddo? Shoot your mouth off, it makes it that much easier to beat the shit out of your nonsense.

Offensive to refer to Bernie Sanders as a "socialist"?

Hell, that shithead's not a Socialist, he's a Communist. Fuck him with a rusty Ebola-infected Garden Weasel.

"Latest Liberal Assault on Free Speech"

Wrong.

The concept of free speech concerns solely the relationship between government and those governed, not the relationship between and among private persons or private organizations – one private person or entity cannot 'violate' the 'free speech' of another private person, only government has the potential of violating free speech when it enacts measures contrary to First Amendment jurisprudence.

Private citizens writing articles in private media venues expressing personal opinions on various issues of the day do not constitute an 'assault' on 'free speech.'

Moreover, in none of the articles linked are any of the authors identified as 'liberal,' 'representative' of all 'liberals,' or officially speaking on behalf of 'all liberals,' consequently the thread premise fails as a straw man fallacy.

Last, the authors of the articles are not advocating that any words be 'banned' by government, where anyone using such words would be subject to punitive measures by the state – absent such punitive measures, there is no free speech 'violation'; indeed, the authors of the articles are correctly and accurately observing that words are being misused in an effort vilify politicians and/or their policy positions, such as referring to Bernie Sanders as a 'socialist,' which he clearly is not.

It's remarkable, but not surprising, the ignorance of many on the right as to what constitutes a violation of free speech, that only government can violate free speech, and that private citizens in the context of a free and democratic society denouncing or opposing speech those citizens consider to be offensive and inappropriate in no way 'violates' free speech – of course, many conservatives still attempt to propagate the lie that it does.

The only people who can use certain terms are liberals while everyone else can't. I say that limits someone's right to speak.

True but only because it would be to obvious to pass a law. The public would never except that. An alternative strategy is to declare certain terms as offensive which pretty much intimidates anyone from using them in casual conversation since casual conversation has to the least upsetting and offensive as possible.

Well since your statement is entirely untrue, God only knows what the hell you are talking about. You haven't shut up once since the day you got here, and no one is stopping you here or elsewhere.

You conservatives tried to shut down your opponents on this Board until they got so pissed off they kicked the crap out of you.

Put this in the flame zone.

I've experienced other alternative strategies such as placing all unagreeable ideas in the conspiracy theory zone where it gets treated as such.

This should be placed in the complete lie zone just like everything else you post.

Post something real and that won't happen, but that's not your deal, you've never been real.

Nobody's stopping anyone from saying what they want. The complainers just don't like being called on their stupidity and are actually the ones trying to interfere with the freedom of speech. If you want to say something, say it, but don't cry when you get push back.
