All of this mess has happened under Obamas watch, under Obamas policies and with his blessings. Things can't and won't get better as long as self reflection never happens. Is anyone here willing to be critical of the policies Obama has either pushed for or allowed to remain in place?

Everyone on the left wants to play, cover your ass and the famous blame game. Most on the right clearly sees the problems but NO ONE on the left will listen. The downgrade happened because S&P warned us we needed at least 4 trillion in cuts and we didn't do it. It's that simple. Everyone that voted for this bill should be recalled immediately. Only the Tea Party put the cuts we needed in writing in a bill. The left bloviated about 4 trillion in cuts but never offered a bill to vote on.

OBAMAS POLICIES HAVE LED US TO THIS POSITION. HE HAD COMPLETE CONTROL FOR 2 YEARS AND DID NOTHING TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING.

Do you have a link to S&P's press release and statement concerning the downgrade? Is this going to be a fact based thread on " self analysis and critical thinking"?

after the downgrade can you really trust what the Left says about finances and the economy
For example PapaObama Care was going to instantly create 400,000 jobs

Easy one

S&P also said

"Standard & Poor’s takes no position on the mix of spending and revenue measures that Congress and the Administration might conclude is appropriate for putting the U.S.’s finances on a sustainable footing."

"In addition, the plan envisions only minor policy changes on Medicare and little change in other entitlements, the containment of which we and most other independent observers regard as key to long-term fiscal sustainability."

Really pushing the Left spin on the S&P does not help the cause much

Problem is progressives do their best to appear "selfless" however they're the most narcissistic self absorbed people around.

Every progressive has ITS hand out begging for free shit and they demand the government provides for their laziness....

I just watched the head of S&P on Neil Cavutos show on Fox. He was quit clear that they warned us of the minimal amount of cuts.

I blame Obama for extending the Bush tax cuts. Had he let them expire, the economy would not be better but would likely not be worse. However, the deficit would not be nearly as great. Unfortunately, the Republicans wouldn't have done anything differently.

So your idea of "self analysis and critical thinking" is to watch Neil Cavutos? Well here's mine:

"We lowered our long-term rating on the U.S. because we believe that the
prolonged controversy over raising the statutory debt ceiling and the related
fiscal policy debate indicate that further near-term progress containing the
growth in public spending, especially on entitlements, or on reaching an
agreement on raising revenues is less likely than we previously assumed and
will remain a contentious and fitful process. We also believe that the fiscal
consolidation plan that Congress and the Administration agreed to this week
falls short of the amount that we believe is necessary to stabilize the
general government debt burden by the middle of the decade."

S&P also said

"Standard & Poor’s takes no position on the mix of spending and revenue measures that Congress and the Administration might conclude is appropriate for putting the U.S.’s finances on a sustainable footing."

They also said:

The outlook on the long-term rating is negative. As our downside alternate
fiscal scenario illustrates, a higher public debt trajectory than we currently
assume could lead us to lower the long-term rating again. On the other hand,
as our upside scenario highlights, if the recommendations of the Congressional
Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction--independently or coupled with
other initiatives, such as the lapsing of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts for high
earners--lead to fiscal consolidation measures beyond the minimum mandated,
and we believe they are likely to slow the deterioration of the government's
debt dynamics, the long-term rating could stabilize at 'AA+'.

YOUR A FUCKING IDIOT. I watched the head of S&P just say he warned congress and the president and they ignored him. So your long diatribe is pointless. It's obvious.

CUT THE FUCKING SPENDING STUPID.

it is under PapaObama's watch

Do you fucking read? My "diatribe" is a quote from S&P's downgrade justification. You are unworthy of further debate.

Visit Chicago or any major US city and its surroundings.

Besides it's not just the welfare crowed - its the scientists who want free government money, it's the public sector unions, it's those who have never paid a dime into social security their entire lives but demand they get it among others.

The Left has increased spending to 25% of GDP
historically it is around 19-20%

We have a spending problem

Gov't spending is like an addiction and the downgrade is the first "intervention" for it

DO you include farm subsidies and oil subsidies in that group as well?
