The Ethics Office is a JOKE...and it is NOT a secret to anyone. I will point out that the Ethics office has covered for / been extremely lenient on politicians on both sides of the aisle. Allowing Congress to be the watchdog of ethics over their own is like letting the proverbial wolf guard the hen house.

Independent, objective counsels should not be the exception but should be the rule. Politicians should not be able to 'police' their own members.

If the Conyers issue is allowed to be handled by this Committee he will walk, nothing will be done.

I think the article is right on. I also think there is another reason. Notice they didn't say the same for Franken they just want him to resign. They are sacrificing the clown to try and take the king. So as you say the ethic committee is mostly about cover up of poor ethics not punishing one of their own. BUT it puts a show on so the democrats can try and claim a moral high ground without actually doing anything.

Several problems with your 'theory'.

1. Democrats only called for Franken to step down when they knew the call for him to do so was not enough to force him to do so. The media today is reporting that now that the call for him to do so has escalated Democrats are 'circling the wagons' to defend him.

2. Democrats are ACTING the clown. 'Take the king'? Snowflakes have not learned you actually need 'evidence' to take down anyone. There are photographs of Franken....snowflakes still have no evidence.
