On January 23, 2017, a message from Syrian governmental forces appeared in Twitter which stated that shipments of weapons from Ukraine to local Islamist militants had been discovered. The message was attached by evidences – photos of found weapons with shipping tickets.
As is standard, many hastened to asseverate that this message is “information attack” or “propaganda fake” made by the Russians. Perhaps, such suspicion could have a point in the case of another weaponizer…but not in the case of Ukraine.
Few are aware that Ukraine has been one of the main suppliers of weapons which furnish Islamist militants for years (despite of all Kiev statements). It is documented by abundant testimony.
The first evidence of these arm sales was found and posted online by “CyberBerkut” hacking group on October 23, 2015. They hacked email of Polish “Level 11” CEO Pawel Krzykowski which actions in Ukraine evoked suspicions, and uncovered arms traffic corruption scheme under the auspices of state authorities.
According to data from hacked email, “Level 11” furnishes Ukraine with arms through “Fort” state research and production association which belongs to Ministry of Internal Affairs. The access to the country was given to the company by Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, his former advisor Anton Gerashenko and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Turchynov. The hackers also found two contracts for delivery of the same weapon – 265 soviet-made ZU-23-2 towed AA twin autocannon – to both National Guard of Ukraine and Saudi Arabia (through co-contractor of “Fort” association - Cyprian “Blessway Ltd” company headed by…”Level 11” VP Vasily Babytskiy!).
So, Krzykowski and Babytskiy sale arms to each other in Ukraine, Gerashenko and Avakov embezzle war chest, but arms finally are delivered to Riyadh…
Perhaps, many will say – “It’s a mere corruption, how do arms sales to Islamist militants come into the picture?” The fact is that Saudi Arabia does not ever operate any soviet-made weapons, including ZU-23-2. However, these AA guns mounted on pickups are one of the most popular weapon among terrorist groups in the whole Middle East.
On November 19, 2015 the whole world got hear about the shipments of weapons from Ukraine to Middle-Eastern terrorists and Kiev was near international row. On that day an international news agency AFP citing Kuwait Ministry of Internal Affairs statement, said that a chief of uncovered local Islamic State terror cell told about weapons acquisition in Ukraine ((http://www.usnews.com/news/world/ar...ts-extremists-in-cell-funded-by-islamic-state). However, this incident did not, weirdly, find resonance…
As for Kiev, it continued to sale arms in the Middle East according to the same scheme. In less than a month state-run “SpezTechnoExport” company sold a stock of soviet OFAB 250-270 aerial bomb to Qatar through the same old resellers – “Level 11” and “Blessway Ltd”.
Such bombs can’t be used by Qatar air force (its warplanes – Mirage-2000, Alpha Jet and Hawk Mk.100 can’t carry any soviet-made armament) but they often used by terrorists in improvised explosive devices.
Though, it is an illusion to believe that Ukrainian officials only turns a blind eye to this grim business accepting bribes from the arms traders – there are evidences of their participation in it. Indeed, in May of 2016 a conversation between Verkhovna Rada (Parliament of Ukraine) member Andriy Kot and Oleksandr Turchynov was posted online by hackers. In the conversation they discussed arms sale to Saudi Arabia for Islamist militants in Syria.
It is worthy of note that in their dialogue the politicians mention European Union and the United States as blanket of protection of such activity. Besides, Turchynov openly states that the weapon will be used against Russian forces in Syria.
To sum up, all the above mentioned indicates that Ukraine is one of the main weapon suppliers of terrorist groups in the Middle East against all international laws. Moreover, Ukraine officials by themselves take part in this action. So, the best definition for Messers Avakov, Turchynov and Gerashenko – international criminals…
