The Ukraine has a different dynamic. West Ukraine and Kiev is predominantly ethnically and linguistically Ukrainian; the east is Russian. The division is profound, even to religion. West is Catholic, east is Orthodox. Neither Thailand nor Venezuela has this kind of split.
