Why isn't the economy recovering? After previous recessions, unemployment didn't get stuck at close to 10 percent. If left alone, the economy can and does heal itself, as the mistakes of the previous inflationary boom are corrected.

The problem today is that the economy is not being left alone. Instead, it is haunted by uncertainty on a hundred fronts. When rules are unintelligible and unpredictable, when new workers are potential threats because of Labor Department regulations, businesses have little confidence to hire. President Obama's vaunted legislative record not only left entrepreneurs with the burden of bigger government, it also makes it impossible for them to accurately estimate the new burden.
In at least three big areas -- health insurance, financial regulation and taxes -- no one can know what will happen.

New intrusive rules for health insurance are yet to be written, and those rules will affect hiring, since most health insurance is provided by employers.

Thanks to the new 2,300 page Dodd-Frank finance regulatory act, The Wall Street Journal reports, there will be "no fewer than 243 new formal rule-makings by 11 different federal agencies." These as-yet unknown rules will govern lending to business and other key financial activity.
The George W. Bush tax cuts might be allowed to expire. But maybe not. Social Security and Medicare are dangerously shaky. Will Congress raise the payroll tax? A "distinguished" deficit commission is meeting. What will it do? Recommend a value-added tax?

Who knows? But few employers will commit to a big investment with those clouds hanging over our heads.

RealClearPolitics - Where Are the New Jobs?

And this IS why employers are NOT hiring. Because all of the "crises" that Democrats said had to be "fixed" like healthcare. Which has done nothing but create a crisis.

And of course, that's what Democrats want! A crisis means they have to create even MORE legislation. More power for them, less freedom for us! Wee! It's a win win for them!

That is, until November! ;)

On November 11, David N. Farr, Chairman, CEO and President of Emerson Electric Co., announced at the Baird 2009 Industrial Conference in Chicago that President Obama has succeeded in chasing his multi-billion dollar industry right out of the U.S.A. Why? Onerous regulation, high taxes, and the over $1 trillion Obama debt should be reason enough for any business to consider shutting down U.S. facilities and seeking greener pastures overseas says Farr.

The federal government is “doing everything in [its] manpower [and] capability to destroy U.S. manufacturing,” says David Farr, chairman and CEO of Emerson Electric Co., in a presentation at the Baird 2009 Industrial Conference in Chicago Ill., on Nov. 11. In comments reported by Bloomberg, Farr added that companies will continue adding jobs in China and India because they are “places where people want the products and where the governments welcome you to actually do something. I am not going to hire anybody in the United States. I’m moving. They are doing everything possible to destroy jobs.”

...

Obama’s government with its discouraging interference in the market and the deleterious effects that has had on the national business climate all tends to make foreign shores seem very attractive for American business. At a time when the U.S. is losing almost as many jobs as the last four recessions combined Obama is making the business climate much worse with his policies. But, this shouldn’t surprise anyone. Barack Obama is a good ol’ Illinois pol, after all. And Illinois ranks among the worst business climates in the country.

You have to wonder why Obama is so deliberately destroying American jobs while padding the pay of government workers?

I think it's pretty obvious, Obama wants the middle class dependent on government and that's not going to happen, with a strong private sector.

Obama will create a massive bureaucracy as exists in France and other EU member nations and channel the upper middle/upper class into it, the middle class will then pay the tax bill for both this bureaucracy and the health-care and social welfare plans. In time US unemployment should stop at 12-18% or the real EU average (not their giant bank/factory nations they try to promote as socialist successes).

The liberal media is already preaching to us that this is the "new normal" and we should "get used to it."

LIKE HELL! I say!

I do NOT intend to get "used to it" and I intend to make that view heard VERY CLEARLY on November 2. ;)

153,000 private sector jobs added this summer vs. losing about 800,000 in Jan of 2009 and 346,000 one year ago.

What a lie!

What are you topspin's sockpuppet or something?

Now let's see the actual numbers WITH A URL TO BACK IT UP.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

LOL....jobs were FLEEING this country under the Bush Admin and NOW you rightwing hacks are screaming that "we won't get used to this new normal!??"

Under the Great One GW Bush the economy did so well that "negative" private sector jobs were created!

Private sector jobs, Jan 2001: 111,634,000
Private sector jobs, Jan 2009: 110,961,000

Difference: -673,000

On the jobs created thing.
I was never sure is that just jobs created or jobs created minus jobs lost?
If we create 500,000 new jobs but lose 500,000 old jobs have we created anything?

It's the net change in jobs. If companies layoff a total of 100 people, and other companies hire a total of 150 people, the "jobs created" = 50. "Jobs created" is poorly-worded shorthand for "net change in non-farm payroll employment".

You want jobs to come back into the USA?

Easy peasy...stop allowing every third world shithole in the world to import goods into this nation.

That really all that we need to do.

Now ask yourselves why we allowed this state of affairs to happen in the first place.

After all the founding fathers understood perfectly that if you wanted an industrial nation you needed to foster industry in it.

Why did we forget such an obvious thing as that?

Because American workers make too much and the only way to prosperity is through lower wages.

Well, when you can show me where unemployment rose to 10% under him, let me know.

:cuckoo:

I think that economic growth (and the creation of jobs) is being deminished by the amount of money siphoned off by legalised gambling.

"Americans wagered approximately $900 billion in 2009 and gross gaming revenue - the amount retained by casinos, race tracks, lotteries, and other gaming hosts - totaled $80.5 billion."

That's 900 billion dollars that could have been directed into creating more meaningful jobs. Also, that 900 billion could have been used to underwrite the development of American industries that would be more competitive with their overseas counterparts that are robbing Americans of their jobs!
