It's the Spending, Stupid

So, in your opinion, is this an excuse to continue the status quo instead of finding real solutions to the government's bottomless wallet?

No.

I'm just saying if there were an easy solution, it'd have been done by now. Spending will have to be reduced at some point. How is the million dollar question.

How......I say an equal cut of 20% across the board on everything. This way no one can bitch.

Second...instead of kowtowing to the left wingers Obama would earn my respect if he made a concerted effort to correct the fraud and waste in the current government medical programs. Then after he clearly demonstrates his determination on this issue he would get 95% of Americans to back a healthcare option that included government involvement. As for right now...he continues to lose support for another government program that will continue to allow the tax paying public to be bilked out of billions annually. Then on top of that Obama doesn't even know how many uninsured we have...first it was 47 million then 30 million...what's next?

seems like common sense to me.

"the government who robs peter to pay paul can always depend on the support of paul," george bernard shaw once said.

For a socialist, shaw demonstrated good sense with that quotation. Unfortunately, america has become a laboratory in which his hypothesis is being tested.

taxes economy

the theory of government i was taught says that government provides benefits, primarily security, to the entire population. In return we pay taxes. But lately the government has been a distributor of special privileges, taking money from some and giving it to others. America is now about evenly split between those who pay income taxes and those who consume them.

The urban-brookings tax policy center recently disclosed that close to half of all households will pay no income tax this year. Some will pay less than zero -- that is, they'll get money from those of us who do pay taxes.
.
.
.
The built-in unfairness of the tax system has prompted a range of tax-reform proposals, such as a flat tax and replacing the income tax with a sales tax. These alternatives are better, but they have their drawbacks, too. For that reason, there is something more urgent than tax reform: spending reform.

the true burden of government, the late milton friedman said, is not the tax level but the spending level. Taxation is just one way for the government to get money. The other ways -- borrowing and inflation -- are also burdens on the people. The best way to lighten the tax burden is to lessen the spending burden. If government spends less, it takes less. And if it takes less, the tax system will weigh less heavily on us all.

Once again, we find wisdom in adam smith: "little else is requisite to carry a state to the highest degree of opulence from the lowest barbarism but peace, easy taxes, and a tolerable administration of justice: All the rest being brought about by the natural course of things."

Does any politician ever really cut spending?

50 Examples of Government Waste
snip,
Soaring government spending and trillion-dollar budget deficits have brought fiscal responsibility--and reducing government waste--back onto the national agenda. President Obama recently identified 0.004 of 1 percent of the federal budget as wasteful and proposed eliminating this $140 million from his $3.6 trillion fiscal year 2010 budget request.

This isn't a slam on Mr Obama, it's a slam on our entire federal government that insists on trading earmarks/pork for votes on a spending bill.
These fuckers are really pissing me off.

and then in the same breath Obama tells the American public that there is 500 billion dollars in fraud and waste in Medicare!!!!!

Why the FUCK doesn't he fix that instead of spending another TRILLION DOLLARS on ANOTHER HEALTHCARE program destined to be RIFE WITH FRAUD!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmmmmmmmm let's see

140 million in waste....500 BILLION IN FRAUD !!!!!!!!!

WTF OBAMA!!!!!!!

Who is committing this fraud? The capitalists? How do you stop them? Spend more money on a bigger staff to catch them?

Why can't capitalists just be HONEST and stop ripping us all off as they do? their GREED stops them?

Bush & Obama...Like two peas in a pod. Both are inept & failed Socialists in my opinion. :(

The only difference is that conservatives gave president bush 8 years before saying this about him and they are giving Obama just 9 months to say this about him...

These same people said that September 11th happening on president bush's 9 months was really president Clinton's fault not president bush's who just became our president and was only here for 9 months yahdeedah...

The Democrats were saying it was president bush's fault, primarily.

Now the tables seemed turned?

you have my permission...! ;)

though it just ends up being another thing of up verses down that has reversed lately...as somewhat of an outsider, I can see tons of roll reversals happening...between the 2 parties.
:(

Hence my opinion that the 2 parties really aren't as different as the parties want us to believe they are. They give us the perception that they are different to keep us fighting amongst ourselves instead of paying attention to the boondoggle and robbery that they are involved in.

Whoa....who let the govt hater out of the bag

Bullshit. While many stuck by him through his first term, a good portion were disillusioned soon after. As a result, the Republicans lost control in 2006. Maybe the libs can learn something and wake up sooner rather than later.

Republicans, some democrats and independents gave president bush ANOTHER 4 YEARS after his initial term of 4 years by voting him in again for those 4 years, that can not be denied....imo.

Part of the reason why was Kerry. Kerry may have been the worst Presidential Candidate since Mondale, and he still managed to stay close to Bush in the polls right up to the last month.

I know that in 2004 when I stood in the ballot box, I voted Bush. As much as I disliked him, as much as I wanted to remove him from office... I just couldn't pull that lever for Kerry.

A stronger candidate would have beaten Bush easily in 2004. At various points the "Anyone but Bush" options in polls was beating Bush. Its just Kerry wasn't the guy that could beat Bush.

That's because the best the dems had to offer was Kerry. Lots of people voted the lesser of two evils.

I know many people who felt that President Bush was going to be better than kerry ever could have been, and this is why I did not change my stance on my statement...President Bush was given 8 years!

Well now the Socialists are flat broke so it's time for them to turn on their own people like all Socialists/Communists eventually do. "Gotta get those Evil Soda Drinkers & Potato Chip Eaters now!!" Why should the average American Citizen be punished and have to suffer for something they had nothing to do with? No one in the Government consulted me before giving $Trillions in tax payer cash to the corrupt corporate fat cats. Did they consult any of you? So now they Socialists will begin their assault on the average American Citizen through punitive excessive taxation. We will now be punished for their Sins. Why aren't more people outraged? Pretty sad and perplexing.

I do not believe the people in congress have the ability or the balls to cut government spending. It should be a requirement for anyone running for congress or the president to have run something successfully before being allowed on the ticket. Seriously. This is ridiculous.

Congress cowers before reigning King of Pork

A Washington Post exposé revealed that Murtha has steered more than $200 million in federal funds to his namesake over the past 15 years, including more than $25 million for runways to handle heavy military planes that don’t fly there, $8 million for a radar system that isn’t used and $800,000 in stimulus funds to repave an alternate runway though the main one sees little traffic.

The Murtha airport has only three daily commercial flights — all to Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C. About 30 people use the airport on a daily basis. According to the Post, every flight to and from Murtha receives a federal subsidy of $147 per passenger, twice the national average for the program that supports air transportation to rural communities.
.
.
.
Last month, Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., introduced an amendment that would have prevented any future federal funds from flowing to the airport. “If we cannot cut the funding for this little airport in Pennsylvania, named after the congressman that helped get it $200 million,” the Post quoted him as saying, “if we cannot look at the facts in this particular case, and decide as a Congress to stop this, then there is nothing we can cut here, then there is no such thing as waste.”

The amendment was defeated when 53 senators, including 51 Democrats, voted against it. A similar measure was defeated earlier in the year in the House along a party line vote, 263-154.

Even in the midst of economic hardship, Congress can’t muster the courage tell one of its biggest spendthrifts, “Enough!” And that’s one of the major reasons why the public holds the institution in such low esteem.

Another example of Queen Nan's 'most honest and ethical congress ever.'

Murtha has been a crook for years, as well as being the king of wasteful spending and they do nothing to stop it.

And some of us had the intestinal fortitude to not cast a vote for either Mr Bush or Mr Kerry. I voted for Mr Bush as the "lesser of two evils" the first time, I decided to not vote for "evil" at all, ever again.
