I ran across this Ithaca M49 this morning for $150.00. It's in almost new shape. 18" barrel, walnut stock. They used a light colored and ugly-ass elm wood later to keep costs down.

They were made between 1961 and '71. Shoots S, L, and LR.

Many a kid found one under the Christmas tree back in the 60s having moved-up from a Red Ryder BB gun. ;)

They use a modified falling block action much like a Martini-Henry except it has a hammer which has to be cocked manually. Nice crisp 3# trigger.

The receiver is a cast/painted affair. The magazine tube is fake.

Dad had one sold by Sears that excluded the fake tube that he used as a trapping .22 till he lost it in the James River when his canoe rolled on him while coon trapping....He carried a revolver after that.

He liked it because it was light and easy to load. Ugly as hell but it shot straight. In fact I liked the dovetailed front sight better than the cast affair.
