GOP Know-Nothings Fought Pandemic Preparedness

When House Appropriations Committee chairman David Obey, the Wisconsin Democrat who has long championed investment in pandemic preparation, included roughly $900 million for that purpose in this year's emergency stimulus bill, he was ridiculed by conservative operatives and congressional Republicans.

Obey and other advocates for the spending argued, correctly, that a pandemic hitting in the midst of an economic downturn could turn a recession into something far worse -- with workers ordered to remain in their homes, workplaces shuttered to avoid the spread of disease, transportation systems grinding to a halt and demand for emergency services and public health interventions skyrocketing. Indeed, they suggested, pandemic preparation was essential to any responsible plan for renewing the U.S. economy.

How is it so many of you think we should not monitor valcanoes or prepare for a pandemic?

It will create jobs.
:doubt::eusa_wall:

yeah, sure it will

actually, most are already imployed that would do those things, unless you plan to create all new full time jobs for something you might only use once every 5 years

and btw, this ISNT to pandemic level

Our medications stockpile for this event is too small.

How do medications get made?

How many jobs would be created to fill the need?

Funny how science just keeps going over the heads of so many cons.

Who will ship those meds?

can you say jobs
you gotta be kidding
you think UPS and Fedex couldnt handle the load????

shhhh, she thinks they're going to hire a bunch of people to use these to make additional doses of flu meds.

Think it through in a logical manner.

These meds have to be in the areas that the flu could spread, they have expiration dates.

This would be an ongoing maufacturing and shipping endevor.

EVERY town in the nation has to have a stockpile.

UPS and all other shippers would have to hire more peopel than they have now if this started. They could not do it with the employees they currently have.

If you dont know that then you dont know business.

it would only be temporary at best
