Is the book "Atlas Shrugged" being played out in real time?

Rand did show a tiny spark of talent in Atlas Shrugged, but the author was crazy, narcissistic, and taking amphetamines. She had a traumatic childhood in Soviet Russia before she escaped to the United States. She wrote four novels and a handful of political screeds that encouraged selfishness and a lack of concern for other people.. Very shallow and immature.
And you personally are giving how much of your earnings and resources to counter "selfishness and a lack of concern for other people."
BTW, taxes don't count here. What does is how much you give above and beyond such to charity or some other cause/concern that shows you aren't also "Very shallow and immature."

Nobody who takes Karl Marx seriously that is. Marx is even more juvenile and unreal fantasy, yet most of the Leftists see him and his work as their salvation.
Marx and Engels set out an economic theory, but the political implications of how the state allocates finite amounts of capital to do the most "good" and individual liberty are ... suspect.

Rand illustrated, with a heavy hand, the liberty aspects of "collectivism". She may have foreshadowed the economic consequences for macroeconomics, but others, esp the Friedmans, made them clear.

But Rand needed social security. So her absolutist ideology of every man for himself was not really workable.

....nor is any imagined perpetual motion machine or free energy.
That we know about.
While there are corporations who would suppress anything that reduced their profit, the whole point is that socialism would prevent that.
Wow, you really are fuckin' naive....Socialism makes certain that such devices, which would free the peasants, stay only in the hands of the party members.
It is the capitalists who are profit motivated and dangerous, not the representatives of a real republic.
Crony corportists aren't laissez-faire capitalists.
So Ayn Rand has it all completely backwards, where capitalist industry is the threat, and socialist industry provides for the people instead.
Seeing as you just went 0-fer,you should probably withhold you opinions on Rand's.

The book is boring as fuck....Easily 300 pages too long.

Though I haven't seen the movie trilogy, it's likely more attention holding than that doorstop.
Another one that I kinda liked is Radio Free Albemuth, by Phillip K. Dick. It's sci-fi genre, but the political messaging is strong.

The movie stars Alanis Morisette as an anti-communist resistance fighter.

While we are on this topic, some essential info;
...
Elon Reeve Musk FRS (/ˈiːlɒn/; born June 28, 1971) is an entrepreneur, investor and business magnate. He is the founder, CEO and chief engineer at SpaceX; angel investor, CEO and Product Architect of Tesla, Inc.; founder of The Boring Company; and co-founder of Neuralink and OpenAI. With an estimated net worth of around US$252 billion as of April 2022,[3] Musk is the wealthiest person in the world according to both the Bloomberg Billionaires Index and the Forbes real-time billionaires list.[4][5]

Musk was born to a Canadian mother and White South African father, and raised in Pretoria, South Africa. He briefly attended the University of Pretoria before moving to Canada at age 17. He matriculated at Queen's University and transferred to the University of Pennsylvania two years later, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Physics. He moved to California in 1995 to attend Stanford University but decided instead to pursue a business career, co-founding the web software company Zip2 with his brother Kimbal. The startup was acquired by Compaq for $307 million in 1999. The same year, Musk co-founded online bank X.com, which merged with Confinity in 2000 to form PayPal. The company was bought by eBay in 2002 for $1.5 billion.

In 2002, Musk founded SpaceX, an aerospace manufacturer and space transport services company, of which he is CEO and Chief Engineer. In 2004, he joined electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Motors, Inc. (now Tesla, Inc.) as chairman and product architect, becoming its CEO in 2008. In 2006, he helped create SolarCity, a solar energy services company that was later acquired by Tesla and became Tesla Energy. In 2015, he co-founded OpenAI, a nonprofit research company that promotes friendly artificial intelligence. In 2016, he co-founded Neuralink, a neurotechnology company focused on developing brain–computer interfaces, and founded The Boring Company, a tunnel construction company. He also agreed to purchase the major American social networking service Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion. Musk has proposed the Hyperloop, a high-speed vactrain transportation system.

Musk has been criticized for making unscientific and controversial statements. In 2018, he was sued by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for falsely tweeting that he had secured funding for a private takeover of Tesla. He settled with the SEC but did not admit guilt, temporarily stepping down from his chairmanship and agreeing to limitations on his Twitter usage. In 2019, he won a defamation trial brought against him by a British caver who advised in the Tham Luang cave rescue. Musk has also been criticized for spreading misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic and for his other views on such matters as artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency and public transport.

Wrong.
Karl Marx correctly recognized the wealthy elite were monopolizing capital, jobs, production, etc., and were creating wars, economic slaves, etc.
His solution was shared communal resources to prevent private monopolies, but there are other solutions.
He was just the first to notice and comment.
Very few people would take Marx seriously.
Instead of communal resources being shared to create public companies, we have gone the route of anti trust, anti monopoly, and anti abusive labor laws.
Seems to be working to a degree.

Being anti-communist is like being anti-family.
Humans naturally have always been communist.
Can you imagine any hunter/gatherer society that was not communist?

Oh look...our Russian sock puppet is defending communism now

No, charities are terrible for actually accomplishing anything.
Taxes are the correct way, because they can create institutions like free college tuition, vocational training, public health care, etc.

Like anyone has to defend "communism" the way all families live naturally.

When Russia was defending Vietnam from the US abuses and dictators like Diem, are you claiming you were NOT supporting Russia and instead supported US war crimes in Vietnam, like Mai Lai?

Never mind the board handle I've used on here for years. I've never even read the book or seen the movie, but I think I understand the significance of what the author meant to convey. The term "getting galted" is being used to describe what's taking place today: A refusal of the "providers" to furnish a globalist, collectivist, or Maxrist regime the materials it needs, "in an effort to "stop the motor of the world" and bring about the collapse of the bureaucratic society."

John Galt - Wikipedia

In other words, John Galt was the man who organized the withdrawal of all the men in society who have the money and who have the knowledge of how to run a successful business. Men who refused to cooperate with a collectivst form of government. This left only the inept government to keep the country’s economy going.

This seems to be what's occurring right now. It's no secret that the current crop of Democrats are the most left-leaning Marxists this country has ever seen. They are no friend of business, industry, and capitalism. They are enacting business-unfriendly regulations, harsh environmental policies, raising taxes, and apparently those corporations are pushing back. The pushback is being seen in shortages, high prices and disruptions in the supply lines which ultimately, President Biden will be held responsible for. This has led to a country run not as a Democracy but as an ineptocracy. That is defined as a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Apparently Rand predicted this, and President Trump understood this too. But this time, there are millions of John Galts.
No, totally and completely inapplicable. All of the global oligarchs are on board with what is coming, it is a merger of state and corporate power. They plan to get rid of all small business and small farms.

That book was written at a time when there was a real tension between capitalists and socialists. The whole reason and goal of the Royal Institution of International Affairs, and her sister organization in NY, the Council of Foreign Relations, and their other global think tanks, was to use the Hegelian Dialectic to merge the systems. With the founding of the Trilateral Commission in the Seventies, the Rockefeller's funded Brzeziński to rework that old Technocracy school out of Columbia.

Now? Now the MSM is completely controlled by global corporatism, the world over. There are really only two nations left on the Earth that are completely Communist, and who use command economies to steer the entire nation. Cuba and N. Korea.

All the others use State capitalism, or a dirigism model, much like Fascist Germany and Fascist Italy did. IOW, State Capitalism.

The global elites at the World Economic Forum, intend, to take the rest of the west, in that direction, by letting technocrats and AI control everything. This, "data driven," economics, they call, Stakeholder Capitalism, but folks that study it, and loath it, call it for what it really is, it is neither capitalism, nor socialism, it is. . .

TECHNOCRACY.

Last I read, in the bowels of the Biden regime, they are already making policy decisions based on a corporations ESG. . .
What small farm or small business can afford those types of regulations?

Yeah, it was not real fun. . . but it sure as hell is good book for passing the time in an age before the internet and social media.

I once had a swing shift in a factory, rolling out lots of zip-loc bags, for a different machine, and putting a binder on lots, and putting them into a box. The company had a work occupational engineer tell the company, that in order to avoid workplace stress and injury, the best practice was to make workers work twelve hour shift, but to rotate them on the line, two hours at a time, and give them half hour breaks.

wtf do you do with a half hour break, five times a day, once you have had a smoke and done some stretches? I had scads of time to kill.

Well, I read a book. The rest of the line thought I was a bit weird though. . . lol Most of them stared at a soundless TV or read magazines. That book seemed really quite interesting compared to that boring ass job. I thought they were the weird ones. The truth was, when we got off at 7am, and then went to the bar, we were all weird as hell.

My kid once asked me. . . ~ "has grandma always been like that?

I'm like. . . "like what?

He says ~ "Well, I owed her $15.37. So I gave her $15.00. And then she said. . . where's my 37 cents?

. .. " yes son, she has always been like that. She was one of those few people who was raised by a single mother during the Great Depression, her mother was like that with her.

SHE COUNTS EVERY PENNY.

I say it is capitalism because it based on greed and profits.

The Great Depression was capitalist.
Capitalism can indoctrinate people into believing things that are not true.
That wealth is happiness, greed is good, that sharing is evil, that governments are more evil than capitalists corporations, etc.
If you have people growing up constantly competing, you can program people to be different than their inherent nature.

That we know about.

Socialism has NOTHING at all to do with "parties".
You are thinking of Stalinism and that has nothing at all to do with socialism.
Stalinism is centralized and autocratic, while socialism has to be local and democratic.

Capitalism can indoctrinate people into believing things that are not true.
Give me an example of something that the free market has indoctrinated folks into believing that is not true.

I say it is capitalism because it based on greed and profits.
However there is small scale greed where the individual expects others to support them, and aside from that "profits" mean you reap rewards beyond your investments.

My wife and I "invest" into organic gardening in our backyard because, among other things, we expect to reap rewards/profits in forms of organic+healthy vegs and foods, plus exercise in working such, plus the "reward" that cost of seeds, our land/organics/efforts, and eventual harvest will be more than we have "invested" = a.k.a. "Profits"!!!

Dumbfug parasites like you whom live on the labors of others and expect others to support your worthless arse are the real deadwood and dregs upon society!

Not worth keeping!!!

Be glad we let your useless sorts live and survive, at our expense and labors, when you serve no useful purpose!!!

You are a useless piece of waste !!!

Well this certainly brought out the sock puppets (Rigby and Beale)
Ayn Rand was a Russian. She should have waited around a few more decades and "Shrugged" her ass back there.

Maybe JGalt can do that for her. The sock puppets will welcome him

More like Atlas Shrugged plus 1984, and then leading up to The Book of Revelation.
Where the world and this country is going is not a nice place.
