Is polygamy good or bad in your opinion & should it be legal in America?

Can be in the relationship, can "marry" a hundred other people and all live together if you want. Just can't have it recognized in-law by the government.

Actually Delta, it's a crime called bigamy to have more than one spouse.

Only if the marriage(s) are legally recognized. Because of duplicative economic adjustments.

Can say you're married, live with however many you want, but as long as there's only 1 legal marriage you're fine.

In the same vein, can say you're a purple elephant and married to a pink elephant too. :)

Greetings all,

I think that if Judaism and Islam explicitly allow polygamy, making it illegal in America violates peoples right to freely practice their religion...if it makes it participants happy and they are consenting & of age then I don't see the harm in it...

A good line from "The West Wing" comes to mind this morning,

"In a free country, you don't have to show why something should be legal, but why it should be illegal." - 'Donnatella Moss' :)

In this country, you can legally be married and have a mistress on the side and have her bear kids for you

However, if you try to formalize your relationship with the mistress, you are breaking the law

We shouldn't be regulating sexual relationships that don't include minors, the mentally disturbed*, or coercion. Everything safe, sane, and only involving willingly consenting adults is fair game.

*And no, Republicans. Gay people do not fall under the mentally disturbed umbrella.
