We pray to Jesus to show mercy to victims and to forgive them for their sins and to take them to be with him in Heaven. We also pray to Jesus to give comfort to the families and friends of victims.

The term "thoughts" is often included to attempt to appease atheists who don't believe in prayer.

Agreed. If paying tribute to the murdered is offensive to one, they should probably make the choice NOT to watch.

I pray to God, in Jesus' name. And regardless of relgious beleifs, if you offended by a word meant to give comfort, that is sad.
