The following is meant to provide an overview of the military situation in Iraq for non-experts,

This is a truly informative piece about the situation and those taking part @ Iraq Military Situation Report | Brookings Institution

A very key point of the article:

If military developments in Iraq conform to this most likely scenario, they could lead to a protracted, bloody stalemate along those lines. In that case, one side or the other would have to receive disproportionately greater military assistance from an outside backer than its adversary to make meaningful territorial gains. Absent that, the fighting will probably continue for years and hundreds of thousands will die.

We should take the opportunity to work on live fire testing of experimental weapons. Rail guns, lasers etc. let the militants provide adequate fodder to determine effectiveness against lightly armored foot soldiers.

A reliable source, and the matter of Aku Bakr seems less relevant; this civil war has been brewing for a long time.

According to the latest, which is what was reported just now. ISIS is receiving some resistance in northern Baghdad with explosions heard in the central city. Off hand it would appear that ISIS has reached the capitol. obama is still thinking about what to do. Just in case, the Pentagon has a ship on its way in the event obama decides to do something.

The President ordered the ship, and the US awaits the turn of events in Baghdad. No one is "waiting on" the President, meetings are taking place day & night. No consensus, to phrase it mildly, the US doesn't even know who Abu Bakr is..................... today.

No meetings are taking place with this presidunce. He's golfing in Palm Springs.

Isis ? You don't mean this Isis, the one headed by this leader ? (sarcasm alert)

Revealed: How Obama SET FREE the merciless terrorist warlord now leading the ISIS horde blazing a trail of destruction through Iraq

The U.S. once had Islamic State of Iraq and al-Shams (ISIS) leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi in custody at a detention facility in Iraq, it was revealed Friday

Al Baghdadi was among the prisoners released in 2009 from the U.S.'s now-closed Camp Bucca near Umm Qasr in Iraq
It is unclear why the U.S. let the merciless al Qaeda leader slip away
Al Baghadadi and his troops took the Iraqi cities of Fallujah and Ramadi earlier this year and conquered Tikrit and Mosul within the last several days
They are now bearing down on Baghdad, burning down everything that stands in their way and carrying out executions on Iraqi civilians, soldiers and police officers
ISIS posted an image today of an officer's decapitated head tweeted with sickening message: 'This is our ball. It's made of skin #WorldCup'

But now five years later he is leading the army of ruthless extremists bearing down on Baghdad who want to turn the country into an Islamist state by blazing a bloody trail through towns and cities, executing Iraqi soldiers, beheading police officers and gunning down innocent civilians.

As the photos of TWO men, different in facial appearance, are being circulated, we do not know if this is the same man. He hides his face, even among his top leaders. He was reported killed in 2005 also, that turned out to be a false report. Instead of rehashing it, the US needs to ramp up activity NOW. All information is available to contact Obama & Biden, your Senators & House rep.

Wrong, talks with Iran beginning. Get off your comfort chair & urge action, I have.

I urge obama to resign every day. He's still golfing in Palm Springs. He is supposed to leave tomorrow. He has to or his weekend of golf and fundraising will run right into his vacation in Marthas VIneyard.

"Ramp up" ? You're seriously for going back in ? Airstrikes only, and or boots on the ground ?

Of the seven I have sent messages to, 3 R, 4 D, Rubio is the most up to speed, Bill Nelson, next; Boehner's statement is that the House must wait on the President, he must be on a bender. Reid, fairly recent statement, Crenshaw, appears not to know anything has happened in the last 8 months. Obama, Biden, of course, accepting emails. Crenshaw makes sure you are in his district before you can even send an email.

Most sickening is that this bunch now tearing up Iraq is the same group obama was arming in Syria. The same people Assad is fighting. Assad and Putin tried to tell the obama ofukka how wrong he was. The fucking fool refused to listen. If obama does talk to Iran. It's doubtful that he will. It's not like Iran would be asking us for strategic advice. But if he does, he will undoubtedly be told to stop arming ISIS in Syria. Assad will come down on them like a Russian hammer. Then obama can eat "Assad must go" and be even more of a horse's ass than he is already.

No matter who wins in Iraq we will be attacked before we're done counting bodies.

We lost. It's time to find a rock to hide under and lick our wounds.

Obama has at least made it clear the far right and the neo-cons have no voice in decisions, thank heavens.

ISIS is still far away from Baghdad's northern limits.

The explosions are suicide bombers trying to cause panic among the population.

Iran is rushing troops at Iraq's request to Baghdad.

The ISIS surge will stall out in the next two to three days, and a long protracted war will become the norm.

As long as the US and France and Great Britian keep sending Iraqi forces more supplies than the Russians and Chinese to ISIS, the II forces will hold the Baghdad forever.

Whatever is required to stop the slaughter, boots on the ground, the last option.

You did not know that. Better do your research. And also thank you for not questioning the rest of it, for you would have looked very foolish.

If the BHO admin works this right, the sunni and shia will have a WWI environment for the next ten years.

Also the future price of ME oil has been factored without the all time high of Iraqi oil. http://www.futuresmag.com/2014/06/16/iraq-strikes-back-russia-cuts-gas-supply?t=commodities
