Iranian missile may be able to hit U.S. by 2015

Maybe we'll be BFF's with Iran by the time they have nukes. Hell, China got the bomb in 1965, and now the Chinese can't afford to wipe us out - it would be like a landlord shooting all his tenants.

It’s the Israeli’s causing all the problems, and dumb peons such as yourself aiding and abating the Israeli’s instigation of another murderous conflict.

Iran has not attacked anyone, and has a right to self-defense. It’s Iran that’s located between two countries that the Israeli lead America to attack. I can’t think of a nation more justified in having a nuclear deterrent.

It’s the Israeli’s that attacked the U.S.S Liberty, and responsible for 9-11. Larry Silverstein stole billions as a result of insurance fraud, and the horrible death of over 2,000 innocent American. They are the core communist bankers of the Federal Reserve, they are responsible for all inflation, which robs everyone, and on top of that they undermine our whole governmental structure by usury.

The dual citizenship Israeli’s have stolen many billions in cash and property from people walking away from their homes because they were lied to about the properties value. The Israelis already have over 300 nuclear weapons, and you really need to understand where the true threat exists. Hasn’t our government been a damn fool long enough?

I love it...Yanks freaking out about Iran AGAIN...because you know Iran has shown that it is an expansionist power with all those aggressive invasions they've instigated over the past 50 years. Oh, that's right, they HAVEN'T. Or the fact they've stated they are going to invade and bomb the USA..oh, that's right, they HAVEN'T.

Once again, we come back to the Iranian revolution and the pissant little country embarassed the fuck out of a super power and the right-wing loons in the aforementioned super power, just still hold a grudge.

GET OVER IT....lol...lol..lol..lol..lol..

And what other country might this benefit? What country currently has nuclear weapons but is not recognized as a nuclear power?

We could make a list...Russia would love for us to trim our numbers...They've got us outnumbered 2 to 1 at the moment. Who knows how many nukes Israel has...it could me tons or it could be few...the unknown keeps them safe...but I'd be willing to bet it's a larger number than some would think.

Countries with nukes that aren't on the powerhouse list....

N Korea, India and Pakistan come to mind, all of which are not members of the treaty

don't forget Israel.

I didn't...I put Israel in a list of countries considered to be a nuclear power. We have no idea how many nukes they have...

This post would be funny if it were not for the fact that Iran has funded the majority of Islamic terrorism the last 40 years.

We spend more on defense than every other country in the world combined.

If we have to worry about a little pissant country like Iran, then (a) somebody doesn't know what the fuck they're doing or (b) us taxpayers are getting the royal screw job.

Yes and Yes.

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger opined that "nations act in their own interests".

Would that statement hold in the Islamic world of extremism? Is there not some overriding authority in Iran that could put a muzzle brake on Mr. AhMADinejad's wild proclamations, policies and actions before the point of no return?

If not then continuous preemptive strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities is warranted until those facilities are destroyed. This will not be an overnight thing, but achievable without an invasion by ground forces.

For those large embedded targets tactical nuclear weapons can be used to root 'em out. After strike Telcon between US and Iranian leadership can go like this; "Ours work, yours don't".

Why not?

Do you suppose that they'll get a few missles and lob them at the USA?

And then, what, happily sit by as Terhan is turned into a sheet of glass?

Calm down.

Iran is going to become a nuclear power and they won't be the last nation to do so, either.

That geneie is out of the bottle, and it won't be going back in just because the USA would like it to be.

Yeah, and Hitler would never start a war, Germany is just a small country and can't possible win, so why worry?

Oh, wait....

Thank you. Everyone is blowing this up, AGAIN.

Jesus, some of you old timers should remember this. It's sad that history has to constantly be brought up here.

Pakistan wasn't supposed to get a nuke. They were (and are) known sponsors of terrorism, they have (and still have) extremely unstable regimes and are subject to threats from external, powerful nonstate actors. Despite all this, Pakistan has never used a nuclear bomb. People at the time were TERRIFIED and ran around talking about needing to stop AQ khan and his nonsense, but what good has a nuke done Pakistan since then? I'd argue the benefits have been limited, and they've acquired many new restraints as well.

India, same thing (except they don't sponsor terror). besides the brief amount of national prestige gained, india and pakistan are still enemies, and the best we can say the nuke has done is deter further fighting in the region. If this is the case, this notion lends credence to the idea that allowing iran to acquire a nuke may actually result in greater middle eastern stability (I don't subscribe to this particular belief, but if one is to take this anecdote as evidence the implication is certainly there).

N. Korea literally has a crazy leader in power. Bush was on TV classifying them as members of teh axis of evil and bemoaning a future in which N. Korea has nuclear weapons as one in which the very foundations of freedom are at risk. It's been a couple of years now, I don't see the universe imploding or democracy collapsing.

It's time Americans stop being such pussies about nuclear proliferation and protect OUR interests. This hard on with Iran because they hate Israel needs to stop, we face greater nuclear threats to OUR nation from Pakistan or N. Korea.

Iran's stated goal is Israel, we know that, and despite their hard line rhetoric, Iran doesn't sponsor al-qaeda or terrorist groups that target America. In addition, despite the alarmist position of this article, ICBM technology for Iran to reach us won't even be foreseeable until at least 2015-2020. It's time to let Israel deal with their own problems since they want to be so autonomous, we have real issues we need to deal with besides monitoring the Israel - Iran fight.

Yes....five years from now A misslike could reach the US

And we could reign down 1500 missiles in response. I'm sure they are chomping at the bit

Our missles have multiple warheads. About 10 bombs per missle..each independantly targeted. 1500 missles...15,000 targets. 100 sq miles coverage per bomb....one and a half million sq miles of total destructon. 636754sq miles in Iran 1500 missles blows ALL of Iran to smitherines twice over.

"Howard Teicher served on the National Security Council as director of Political-Military Affairs. He accompanied Rumsfeld to Baghdad in 1983.[16] According to his 1995 affidavit and separate interviews with former Reagan and Bush administration officials, the Central Intelligence Agency secretly directed armaments and hi-tech components to Iraq through false fronts and friendly third parties such as Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Kuwait, and they quietly encouraged rogue arms dealers and other private military companies to do the same:

[T]he United States actively supported the Iraqi war effort by supplying the Iraqis with billions of dollars of credits, by providing U.S. military intelligence and advice to the Iraqis, and by closely monitoring third country arms sales to Iraq to make sure that Iraq had the military weaponry required. The United States also provided strategic operational advice to the Iraqis to better use their assets in combat... The CIA, including both CIA Director Casey and Deputy Director Gates, knew of, approved of, and assisted in the sale of non-U.S. origin military weapons, ammunition and vehicles to Iraq. My notes, memoranda and other documents in my NSC files show or tend to show that the CIA knew of, approved of, and assisted in the sale of non-U.S. origin military weapons, munitions and vehicles to Iraq.[17]

Donald Rumsfeld meets Saddām on 19 December – 20 December 1983. Rumsfeld visited again on 24 March 1984, the day the UN reported that Iraq had used mustard gas and tabun nerve agent against Iranian troops. The NY Times reported from Baghdad on 29 March 1984, that "American diplomats pronounce themselves satisfied with Iraq and the U.S., and suggest that normal diplomatic ties have been established in all but name."[14]The full extent of these covert transfers is not yet known. Teicher's files on the subject are held securely at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and many other Reagan era documents that could help shine new light on the subject remain classified. Teicher declined to discuss details of the affidavit with the Washington Post shortly before the 2003 invasion of Iraq.[18]

About two of every seven licenses for the export of "dual use" technology items approved between 1985 and 1990 by the U.S. Department of Commerce "went either directly to the Iraqi armed forces, to Iraqi end-users engaged in weapons production, or to Iraqi enterprises suspected of diverting technology" to weapons of mass destruction, according to an investigation by House Banking Committee Chairman Henry B. Gonzalez. Confidential Commerce Department files also reveal that the Reagan and Bush administrations approved at least 80 direct exports to the Iraqi military. These included computers, communications equipment, aircraft navigation and radar equipment.[19]

In conformance with the Presidential directive, the U.S. began providing tactical battlefield advice to the Iraqi Army. "The prevailing view", says Alan Friedman, "was that if Washington wanted to prevent an Iranian victory, it would have to share some of its more sensitive intelligence photography with Saddam."[3]

At times, thanks to the White House's secret backing for the intelligence-sharing, U.S. intelligence officers were actually sent to Baghdad to help interpret the satellite information. As the White House took an increasingly active role in secretly helping Saddam direct his armed forces, the United States even built an expensive high-tech annex in Baghdad to provide a direct down-link receiver for the satellite intelligence and better processing of the information... p. 27

The American military commitment that had begun with intelligence-sharing expanded rapidly and surreptitiously throughout the Iran–Iraq War. A former White House official explained that "by 1987, our people were actually providing tactical military advice to the Iraqis in the battlefield, and sometimes they would find themselves over the Iranian border, alongside Iraqi troops." p. 38

Author Barry M. Lando says, by 1987, the U.S. military was so invested in the correct outcome, that "officers from the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency dispatched to Baghdad were actually planning day-by-day strategic bombing strikes for the Iraqi Air Force."[20][7] Iraq used this data to target Iranian positions with chemical weapons, says ambassador Galbraith.[15]

The MK-84: Saudi Arabia transferred to Iraq hundreds of U.S.-made general-purpose "dumb bombs".[3]According to retired Army Colonel W. Patrick Lang, senior defense intelligence officer for the United States Defense Intelligence Agency at the time, "the use of gas on the battlefield by the Iraqis was not a matter of deep strategic concern" to Reagan and his aides, because they "were desperate to make sure that Iraq did not lose."[21] Lang disclosed that more than 60 officers of the Defense Intelligence Agency were secretly providing detailed information on Iranian deployments. He cautioned that the DIA "would have never accepted the use of chemical weapons against civilians, but the use against military objectives was seen as inevitable in the Iraqi struggle for survival." Despite this claim, the Reagan administration did not stop aiding Iraq after receiving reports affirming the use of poison gas on Kurdish civilians.[22][23]

Joost R. Hiltermann says that when the Iraqi military turned its chemical weapons on the Kurds during the war, killing approximately 5,000 people in the town of Halabja and injuring thousands more, the Reagan administration actually sought to obscure Iraqi leadership culpability by suggesting, inaccurately, that the Iranians may have carried out the attack.[24]
