Time to actively assist the Iranians in enacting regime change from within.
The statement about the West backing the mullahs seems like more of "It is the United States' fault!" I know Canada was mentioned specifically, but I have bnever seen anything regarding a link between Iran and Canada. Has anyone seen this?
i've heard of it on NPR a few years ago...
the sad thing, we have been letting the Iranian people down. Clinton and Albright really started it with their ass kissing of Iran. Bush has been slightly better, but he seems to be (perhaps rightfully?) wary of making it seem the US is backing insurrection openly. I wish we would and we would do more publicly and privately (maybe we are?) to help these folks out to get rid of the mullahs.
Given what happened when the US tried to back certain parties that were opposed to Hussein after the first Persian Gulf War, I can only say that the US has to be extremely careful. Either we fully back the internal opposition or we dont. Our track record is not good in this area.
i agree, though we can do a lot behind the scenes to assist, as we did in bosnia, croatia, yugoslavia, and georgia.
Maybe we could arm the Kurds in northwestern Iran and create a force like the Northern Alliance once was in Afghanistan. The oppressive Theocracy in Iran reminds me of the Taliban.
