Insurance Subsidies: The Next Lie

So it appears that not everyone will be earning subsidies that are below the 400% poverty line. CNN has just ran a story where they crunched the numbers and if plans are low enough it doesn't matter how much you make, you will not receive assistance. Isn't this just another lie they have told us for the last three years in order to pass this law?

Why would you need subsidies if plan prices are low?

Take just a few minutes to run this exercise... I have. This is a link to the state of Illinois ACA portal:

When prompted, click on the box that says you make "less than... per month".

The site defaults to a Medicaid sign-up page. There are no other options. You are not given the option of continuing to healthcare.gov and there are no links that will take you to the "open marketplace" to find health coverage.

The subsidies are a fake.

Someone is paying for their own insurance. The new plan is so expensive they need taxpayer help so they get a subsidy. The subsidies have to be paid for so taxes are raised on the guy who used to pay for his own insurance so he can now get a subsidy!

It might only make sense to a democrat who sees nothing at all wrong with the government taking money and giving part of it back.

On the other hand a subsidy is money you get from the government. It's taxable. If you owe, back taxes, child support, unpaid parking tickets, the government can take it out of the subsidy! Now you can't pay for your insurance like you used to, the subsidy is taxable and they can take it before you even get it. But you still have to pay the premiums that you can not now afford.

No it's not a lie. Lots of folks who cannot afford insurance or the fine will not get subsidies.

The plans do not determine subsidies, demographics determine subsides.

Zip Code, age, number of adults to be covered, number of children to be covered, number of dependents claimed on Taxes , income and whether or not insurance is available through the eomplyer.

Anyone who qualifes for a subsidy can use it on whatever plan they want.

So far the bottom number for an individual has been 11500 dollars.
