Initial jobless claims at the lowest level since 2008

really?
I dont see it that way.

Obama and the left insisted that another stimulus was required to bring the economy around....and the extended tax cuts on the job creators was a waste of money.

Congress made it clear another stimulus wont happen....and is not necessary,....and to simply let the extended tax cuts work.

So now...any uptick in the economy is confirming that the GOP was correct and that Obama was going to spend another half a trillion dollars for no reason.

So you are worng....we WANT to see an uptick...
BULLSHIT!

The last thing the GOP wants to see is any improvement in the economy. They have done everything they could to slow or stall any recovery, especially now that the economy is improving despite all GOP attempts to stop it. The GOP are against any stimulus because they know it would speed up the improvement in the economy from the last stimulus. Failing all attempts to sabotage the recovery, CON$ will then try to take credit for the recovery they all voted against.

Jarhead's comment was such bullshit, I would wager that he could smell it.

OK...a fair response.

Now...that being said....what makes it bullshit?

Personally, I said in January that by the fourth quarter we should start seeing some positive signs as a result of continuing the tax cuts for the job creators.

When Obamas "second" stimulus was shut down, I said that will be great for it will allow things to settle and allow the private secotr to do what hit has always done naturally...create jobs.

Now...you may want to say it is bullshit...but exactly what is bullshit...the fact that I believed that....or the fact that it is happening?

That's a good thing but at the same time the real unemployment rate is 11.4 percent. Not good.
The real UE rate is 8.6%. CON$ can't accept that so they say the real UE rate is the rate if no boomers ever retire and leave the work force.

Yes you make a good point but does that mean the job they held just disappears? The more baby boomers that retire should mean that the unemployment rate drops drastically just because of the job openings it should create.

LMAO since when does Rush speak for all conservatives??

As for getting the credit JH is right.

A second stimulus would have done just about as much as the first one did. Waste our tax dollars. In this case the GOP was right to stick to its guns. The economy is improving but its taking its time.

It would improve a hell of a lot faster if Govt would get the hell out of the way.

Well, at least you admit the Obama economy is improving. However the CON$ just said that the GOP blocked the government getting in the way with a further stimulus, so the the economy should have improved much faster by your own "logic."

How so? You still have loads of Govt in the way.

Those tax cuts have been in effect for over 10 years, throughout the entire employment decline. If they couldn't stop the decline, they couldn't effect the recovery. The Bush job decline stopped just as the stimulus took effect, which is why the GOP are against a stimulus that is known to help the economy and are for a tax cut that they know will not.

Some of the jobs will not be filled, but most will and as a result the UE went down from 9% to 8.6%.

You have to remember that, in addition to retirees, people leave the workforce because they move out of the country, go back to school, start a business, get married, get sick or injured, or die. But CON$ say everyone who leaves the workforce leaves because they are discouraged so CON$ can claim the "real" UE is over 10%.

Another fair point to consider ... but at the same time how many people do all of those things because they can't find a job in the first place? One number doesn't tell the entire story of the situation, be it good or bad. The only thing we know for sure is the lower unemployment rate we are hearing about is a result of a shrinking labor force ... maybe for good reasons, maybe not.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Fewer Americans filed for their first week of unemployment benefits last week. So few in fact, that initial jobless claims were at their lowest level since May 2008.

About 366,000 people filed initial jobless claims in the week ended Dec. 10, the Labor Department said Thursday. That was a decrease of 19,000 from the prior week, and far better than the bigger influx of claims that economists were expecting.

Less filing unemployment benefits causes jobless claims drop - Dec. 15, 2011
Of course the real truth will come out after the holidays and the temp jobs will be gone and unemployment will go back up. Obamaturd has yet to do anything that this country can be proud of.

How long before the Republicans stop deny the economy is expanding and start trying to take credit for it?

Good news. Not great news, but good news.

With the current formula, 100 million can be unemployed, out of unemployment benefits and the govt can paint a rosy picture of 5 percent unemployment.

I'm not impressed and neither are the 10's of millions that are currently unemployed.
Good news for the country is bad news for CON$, so they just deny it.

8.6 is the fabricated rate.

Gee, December sees employers picking up part time and temporary help and unemployment claims go down. Go figure.

good job. This is people applying for unemployment, which has very little to do with seasonal hiring. Plus the numbers are seasonally adjusted. Why don't you do look up what that means, since you obviously don't understand.
Or how about, you just start trying to understand how stuff works before talking about. There is an old saying normally attributed to mark twain "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

300,000 people are so demoralized that they give up and are no longer counted, democrats cream their pants touting it as good news, but whatcha gonna do? :dunno:

It's actually about people who are working as much. And "seasonally adjusted" is a fluff number.
And this will be revised next week.

What makes it bullshit is that the very last thing the GOP wants from a standpoint of the 2012 election is to see Obama's policies working or being perceived to work. Few remember any mention of a second stimulus. All seem to remember the first one under Obama. Still fewer recall that GWB was the first requestor of a $700B bailout of Wall Street.

BULLSHIT!!! More than half of them are boomers retiring. Others are leaving the country, marrying, going to school, starting a business, sick, injured, dead, etc. Only CON$ are "demoralized" that UE went down and fewer people were laid off.
