Viewers who watch closely will find a URL at the bottom of the screen that leads to Recruitahacker.net. From there, the user can enter rudimentary commands and access a hacking puzzle. Lt. Gen. Paul M. Nakasone told reporters at Defense One's Tech Summit on Thursday that of the 9.8 million people who viewed the ad online, 800,000 went on to attempt the hacking test. Only 1% passed.

Interesting! How hilarious to think that our geekiest teenagers could walk right into an Army officer position. I guess they would still have to complete basic training, that could be a problem.

That's not a good puzzle, cracking "Ccoheal ieu w qwu tcb". It's so short, you can force it to have any result you want by twiddling with the encryption key. For example, if you declare the key is "uakfkzhmecwzwfnoy", you get the answer "IceCube was a rap god".

However, that's probably not what they want. It's more a social engineering puzzle, guessing the result then working back to get the key. It's from arcyber. The first world has 7 letters, therefore you guess the first word is "arcyber".

That lone "W"? Almost certainly "a"

So, Arcyber ... a ... ...

Now it's guesswork. Arcyber has a big job?

What's the point? The CIA admitted that it was virtually powerless to combat attempted hacking into the U.S. electoral system last year so the Army gives a hacking test to potential hackers? It doesn't make sense unless it's a CIA plot.

They are hiring hackers.

What do you think the FBI does with the hackers they catch? They give them jobs!

My point is that if the CIA can't protect us from hackers and the FBI can't protect us from hackers and the rest of the dozen independent intelligence networks can't protect us from hackers what the hell is the Arming doing in the hacking business or is the Army planning to hack the Trump administration? Anything can happen in this political climate.

Guess how you build defenses against hackers? You have people try to hack your own stuff and then build defenses for that!
